Waterpump distance from tank

Hi Guys,

I am currently slowly renovating my bungalow and looking ahead to the bathroom.

I don't think I will be tackling the bathroom full on for another year or so but at the moment my electric shower is starting to play up so looking at possibly doing something temporarily.

Ideally I would like a power shower. My home is warm air gas heated with an electric immersion heater for the hot water. This hot water only goes to kitchen sink and bathroom sink.

The bathroom sink is in the same small room as the current shower location and I was wondering if it is possible to add a twin pump using the existing hot and cold water feed that was blanked off for an old bath.

Does the pump need to be near the immersion tank? Not sure if they need to push mostly and the pull would be too great due to distance from the immersion tank if I installed pump in bathroom.

Secondly getting power to the pump. Can I use the electric shower power that would be removed or the shaving outlet nearby for the pump? I understand this needs to be done by a certified electrician? Just wondered how big a job it would be and if I can save few pounds prepping most of it.

Thanks

You might get on better with a power shower? Looks like an electric shower but has a pump built in. It should take up the same space as the current electric one does, but would need a hot feed from the cylinder and a cold feed from the cold water cistern. It could use the same cable as the electric one, if its not too large.

Most stand alone pump manufacturers don't want their pumps much more than 4 or 5 meters away from the cylinder.

Interesting idea, I didn't realise there was products like this. Are they surface mounted? And do they offer comparable pressure to a stand alone pump?

If your incoming mains water is strong I would recommend fitting an Unvented Cylinder

Some are not much more than a good pump and there is very little to go wrong with them.

If you don't plumb the pump exact to the Mi's then they will not honour the warranty.

yes and yes.

They look like an electric shower and take up roughly the same space, manufacturer dependent. They will deliver anywhere between 14 and 20L/Min at reasonable pressure. They won't be a 3bar Monsoon though ;)
