Servicing garden tools and mower leaking petrol

The mower's petrol cap keeps letting petrol out. Any idea why? Regarding my tools-

Stilh bg86 blower

Stilh Km 94

Plus my hedge cutter attachment strimmer attachments, prining saw attachment for km948

I have a small husquvarna hedgcutter-

How often should I get them serviced? And what kind of servicing? I use them once or twice a week. Usually once week. Mower maybe more

Regarding the mower, either its the wrong cap, the gasket is missing or the threads are worn.
Regarding the two strokes, keep the carburettor area clean and clean the air filter.
The mower needs an oil change, plug and maybe an air filter every year, plus a blade sharpen.
As for the hedge cutter, the gearbox needs regular lubrication.....are you prepared to DIY?

There was a plastic thing which fitted inside the cap,is that what u mean by gasket?

How do you clean the carburetor and air filters in the two strokes?

Yes, theres generally a rubber or card washer inside the cap to help keep things fuel tight.
To clean the air filter elements, buy a can of aerosol carb cleaner and spray with that to wash the grot away.....its just the job for cleaning the surrounding area too.
To access the element, the cover clips off on the BG, on the other one you need a TX27 torx driver screwdriver, unless the head is slotted. The air filters only go in one way so you wont go wrong.

I'll buy some carb cleaner. I'll do it on blower and multi tool engine. Will I be able to do just as good a job as a proper repair place?
 
I don't see why not, I have a compressed air supply to help with the cleaning.
A new spark plug isn't a bad idea from time to time either, as is the filter in the fuel tank.
The hedge cutter is a bit more involved as the base plate is best removed for greasing.

I can try myself I guess. If I do take it to a professional how often ? Once a year? I use most of tools once or twice a week. Mower a bit more
 
Service wise, regarding the two strokes the dealer won't do anything more than I've said....repairs of course are a different matter!
The mower should start the season with fresh oil and a sharpened blade - which will stay that way unless you skim some concrete :eek: having a new air cleaner element and spark plug standing by is a good move too. The machine may need an oil change half way through the season, depending on how much use it gets, but maintain the oil level at all times.
The mower cylinder fins should be blown clear so the engine can cool, and the recoil starter cord should be unfrayed.
The hedge cutter needs its blades ground so I wouldn't attempt anything with that, but some spray grease on the blades is wise. The gears under the sole plate of the hedge cutter do get a hard life so greasing is essential.

As Burnerman says :- not being funny but don't fill the tank right up . I've got an old rotavator and it splashed petrol out because of the vibration of the engine - the petrol was like a rough sea. I got so fed up I jury rigged a petrol tank on the handlebars away from the vibrations.

I've taken cover and filter off my stilh km94 do I spray carb cleaner on that black plastic thing?

The engine seems to not rev too well and cuts out in last week

The machine looks brand new!
The paper type air cleaner can't be cleaned, just get a new one as necessary but it looks unused from here.
If the machine seems to be low on power, try it without the air cleaner and see if it improves.
Are there any screws on the side of the carburettor marked L and H?

I take it the black plastic thing under filter is carburetor. I'm looking for screws but cant find any marked L and H. I took paper air cleaner out ut same thing . Keeps stopping if I rev too hard. The power isn't there. Had same problem just after I bought it. The guy said he cleaned carburetor out and it worked well again. I might have been adding two much two stroke oil to the mix, is that the problem?
 
Yes, the carburettor is behind that black plastic housing......8mm nuts holding it on.
If you have added too much oil to the petrol mix, the smoke produced will be excessive....it will have to have been seriously overdone to reduce the power output though.
The carb may well need a clean, which is pretty involved if you haven't done before.....if it starts to stall after high revs its a sure sign of fuel starvation. A dealer will sort it for you, and he'll probably fit a diaphragm and gasket set - genuine parts being around £16 from Stihl and maybe an hours labour.
You are certain the choke is completely off when you are using the machine? Some chokes come off automatically, some manually....I don't know which system yours has.

The choke is off. It automatically comes off on that machine when u rev. When u say fuel starvation, do you mean the carb needs cleaning? I'll try and get that plastic thing off and maybe spray in there
