My boiler was removed and re-fitted after some building works.

It has now developed a fault after a couple of weeks of being re-commissioned; the problem is due to a faulty air admittance valve on the heat exchanger.

My builder will likely arrange for his heating engineer to fix, but keen to ensure that I am not overpaying to fix.

Is this typically a costly repair? Any ideas on what parts & labour will be for this.

Many thanks.

A boiler does not have an air admittance valve as you call it , it does have an AAV Automatic air vent, this is the problem with google, two completely different things, and both work in opposite ways, not an expensive part and a very easy job to replace

Come on The problem is not in the search engine, it is people using acronyms instead of taking the effort to type the words in full.

Try this one: BGIAD

Generally, if one understands the subject, the context will indicate the meaning if the acronym. And I am never going to write stuff out in full, unless I am writing to someoe who would not be expected to understand.

Apologies for the mix up (I quoted my builder; but didn’t know better myself).

What would be a reasonable labour cost for replacing? £100? Does it require a full drain down? He mentioned freezing pipes, etc.

Depends on what boiler you have. Some are easy and quick to do, some are a real pain to get at (I mentioned the Isar above - that and its sister boiler the Icos are a pig to get to). It also depends on whether it's seized in or not

No Benny boy the problem is why someone would think you would fit a plastic drain onto a heat exchanger, to let air in ? maybe he thought they were going to flush it :LOL:

Doesnt require draining down, just a release of the pressure in the boiler,as above what make and model of boiler do you have ? sorry I never quote on costs on here, but someone will once you tell us what boiler you have
