Garage Ceiling

Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone had anytips for double insulating a 2mtr square part of my garage ceiling..

I have been advised as its only a small area just get some 40mm insulated plasterboard, and some good grab adhesive and basically cover the back of the board with plenty of the adhesive and put up leaving with props for a few hours.

This seems easy enough.. any more advice ? I could do with out battening it out to be honest..

Yeah, dont' listen to whoever advised you to stick board on a ceiling.

What makes your mate think that being a small area warrants a more modest amount of insulation? Ordinarily this vulnerable zone would be insulated to full spec' i.e. filling the floor void with wool type inso' AND insulated plasterboard etc. Alternatively you would need in excess of 120mm of Celotex if you were to rely on that alone.

Your mate is a knob. Do as Woods says and fix through into the floor joists with screws. Using adhesive and props is a right pain in the ass. Give your mate a slap for recommending it.​

Sorry didn't explain myself.. the ceiling is already fully insulated and is covered with plasterboard, this was in addition to block the noise of a boiler and to just insulate further.

So I'd be basically sticking the insulated plasterboard into the plasterboard already there.

If you have ever handled springy non-flat, unwieldy insulated boards, you will realise how daft the proposal is.

I'm going to find the joists and screw directly too them, then joint tape the boards.

Would you advise going as thick as possible? say 90mm insulated boards https://www.buildingmaterials.co.uk/gyproc-thermaline-super-insulation-board

The space I'm looking to cover is only 2 and 1/2 boards and its just to double insulate an try and dampen the sound of the boiler, above the area is the en-suite.
