Why is the water not gushing?

Hi all,
I noticed this last night and I'm not sure if it's getting worse. Basically all the hot taps in the house are not giving out water with much force - if you have them on half turn it's almost a trickle, on full blast it's almost normal. I thought it might be my baxi boiler (usually is!) but it effected the shower this morning. The cold taps might be effected too, but if so not as obviously.
Basically, I'm pretty sure i can fix it, but I don't know where to begin to find out what the fault actually is.

Firstly, you need to determine if it is both hot and cold supplies.

Secondly, you need to inform us how your HW is supplied... Combi boiler/unvented cylinder/vented cylinder?

I've had another look and cold water is also effected, but not as badly. I have a combi boiler, but the shower doesn't go through that so I think it's something before the water gets to either, would you agree?
Don't know if it makes much different but I've done a lot of washing over the last few days, about 4 loads a day (not usual, just bedding and pillows). I don't know if this will have aggravated a as yet undiscovered problem.

Re: "might be a leak" - oh ......expletive! I really hope not. I'm not sure where to start looking! Plus the fool who owned this house before us just loved to box over every pipe and decorate it!

No water meter thank goodness, house is 1930s build.

How do you trace where your pipes go? One set of pipes we have seem to go nowhere as I think it got modified in the past. Hard to check without ripping the back out of the kitchen cupboards.

How about a middle-aged person with average hearing? You need (at least) one assistant.

Thank heavens.
The garden tap was attached to a hose with a sprayer, so hadn't been turned off, but looked like it. The hose pipe had split and was cascading water into the garden - because it's been torrential rain here we never noticed the difference!
So, I'm slightly embarrassed, but hugely relieved. If only all DIY problems were so easy to solve.

I wish my callouts were all that simple... And, if you WERE on a meter, I'd guess you'd be cursing the loss... I have customers on meters who think that a dripping tap into a basin is worthy of a 10pm Sunday phone call as it constitutes an "emergency"
