Can someone please confirm that port 4 (CH on) connects directly to the CH zone valve (brown wire on a 4043h, for example)? From the HIVE wiring diagram, I assume that the output from port 4 is based on resolving both the programmer AND the thermostat ie will only be live if both programmer and thermostat are calling for heat, if either or both not calling, then port 4 is off?

I don't think a picture will help - I haven't wired anything yet! I am looking to install HIVE into an existing/working S plan set up. For additional clarity, I guess my question is stemming from the fact that on a traditional set up, programmer and room stat are separate units: programmer is connected to the stat, which in turn is connected to the zone valve (brown wire), so when both prog and stat are calling for heat, boiler will fire - if either or both are NOT calling, then boiler won't fire. It looks as though, from a wiring point of view, the HIVE receiver effectively rolls both the programmer and stat functionality into one - that's what I'm seeking confirmation on, not having fitted one of these previously. (To be honest, I can't see what else it can be, as there is no other device to wire in).
The hive replaces both the programmer and the room thermostat and yes terminal 4 goes to the brown on the CH zone valve

Yes Hive and Nest replace both the programmer and the room thermostat, but both still use the tank thermostat if fitted, so although they say duel channel only the central heating channel is fully controlled by Nest or Hive, the second channel is just switched, however I know Nest has anti legionnaires software built into the DHW channel so it's not suitable even with a second thermostat to control a second zone of central heating.
Also with Hive the TRV heads will only pair with the CH channel to trigger the heat on demand feature.
