Obese adults account for 29% of adults in England and Scotland

Only 27% in Northern Ireland

West Midlands has the highest rate at 33%

Exercise is only a very small part of the solution. Maintaining a healthy weight is mostly about watching what you eat. If you up your protein and reduce your fat, you’ll probably find the weight comes off without needing to feel hungry.

There are also people who have slow metabolic rates who, despite not working out at a gym or taking exercise, are constantly doing physical things/movement but their metabolism doesn't process their food quickly enough to burn it off.
The downsize of this condition is that any medication they have to take has to be very carefully controlled and monitored. A normal person may take a paracetamol every 4 hours, sadly these people may have to wait for 6 or even 8 hours or it can build up and they overdose without realising.

Metabolic issues don’t account for 30% of the population. There are plenty of obese people as a result of lifestyle and self discipline.

There is obese, then there is massively obese, 50 stone plus, I can't see how just overeating and lack of exercise can lead to that sort of weight.
Mental health issues.

1 When people feel miserable they comfort eat.
2 Then eating makes them miserable, because they know its bad for them
3 see number 1

Overeating is similar to alcohol abuse, betting, drugs, anorexia

I can understand that thought process, they may overeat and get to 20 , 25 or possibly 30 stones, but 50 plus would have to be more than overeating, surely?

I guess they need a 'feeder', someone to stuff it in at one end and shovel it away at the other, I'm thinking at 50 stone they are bed bound or at least house bound, I wonder if it could be a crime, some sort of abuse/assault to help someone get so fat ?
It is very sad to hear of people getting like this, there has to be mental problems or something. 50 stone is just colossal, well over quarter of a ton

Can't say fat, they are curvy.

Also can't fat-shame. It's perfectly normal apparently they have their own clothes ranges and everything nowadays.

So, embrace the fat ...... if you can get your arms around.

An average male requires 2500 calories a day. Anything over that without exercise will lead to weight gain.
You tend to find those who are obese, have gained the weight over many years, often since childhood.
Once you get into the habit of eating lots of unhealthy foods and living a sedentary lifestyle, it is very difficult to break out of it without medical assistance.
Diets only 'fail' because they don't keep to the strict eating regime.
Body fats are not self generating, they need energy to form........... ie food.
