Boris Boondoggle

A BIRMINGHAM man has amused his family and friends by telling them he will use HS2 to get a well-paid job in London.

Tom Logan, aged 22, keeps saying in his thick Brummie accent that he will travel to the capital to work in the City or the media, which everyone has described as ‘absolutely darling’.

Mother Kathy said: “Imagine. Our Tom a yuppie. Isn’t it just the cutest?

“He’s too naive to realise HS2 is a worthless vanity project that will still be in limbo in 2040, or that yuppies stopped being a thing 30 years ago, or that he’d never get a job because he didn’t go to public school or Oxbridge. Bless.

“I just love filming his little earnest face saying his little ambitions in his little Brummie voice. They’re so adorable when they still believe in the government.”

A Conservative spokesman said: “It’s wonderful that little Tom supports HS2 and I suggest he writes a letter to the prime minister, Mr Johnson, care of our press office.

“We’ll do a photo-opportunity where Boris shows him conceptual drawings of non-existent trains and gives him a badge and an ice-cream.”

Gosh I wish I was an expert, so many experts. I wonder why they insist on doing such lowly jobs and are not running the country.
They’re all to busy posting on forums to get involved in real work. Easier to just do nothing and find faults in others.

Not really. Cars are rubbish at mass transit over long distances. You could make them bigger and give them dedicated routes, toilets and desks you can work on, and then you've invented the coach.

HS2 would, if it were here now, make a difference to me as I'd be able to get to clients oop north faster and reduce my need to use the car. Making everyone else's trips on the motorway faster.

Its a pain working with clients split over the country. Making it easier to hop between the London office and the Leeds office makes the Leeds office more practical as well as much cheaper. That can suck more work out of London and into the North.

Is it the best use of public money? Perhaps, perhaps not.

Kings cross to Leeds is 2.25 hours HS2 won't make much of, if any improvement on that. I would like to hope if your in IT by 2030-2040 you won't be a) an IT Minion or b) Require to travel anywhere.

We're all someone's minion.

Some clients won't let you connect remotely for good reasons and sometimes face to face is still the best way to work, especially when you're trying to capture requirements.

Speak for yourself, anyway, HS2 ain't gonna knock anytime off your journey and if your driving, you're doing it all wrong.

It will create thousand of new jobs and also ensure that many have job security ;)

done / dusted and sorted :)

Whats real work? Shoveling lies?

Or waiting for the next foreigner, immigrant thread to get high on.

I'm sure we've all arrived in Manchester at some point and said to ourselves "I wish I'd got here 20 minutes sooner."

How many billions would that be worth?

:D They can't win, cancel HS2 and it's about keeping London on top, go ahead with HS2 it's still about London. I have no desire to ever head north of Watford however i feel this is important for North south connections, it should include freight transport etc. Get loads off the roads and improve on pollution, parts of Europe are doing same now reducing flights and increasing use of train networks.

Im waiting for someone anti tory to actually show some level unbias thinking. Ok Notch has..

The problem with fast non stopping trains is that no other trains can be on the line at the same time.
remove the fast trains and the existing line has loads of timetable gaps which can be filled
HS2 will have a massive impact on the existing network -so the argument that it will be a white elephant isnt true.

clearly HS2 has been mismanaged and it never needed to be such a fast line -thats just some politicians vanity

Maybe not but as this is from the alliance against HS2 one should of course be somewhat cautious about their analysis.

EDIT: Noticed it's out of date, Virgin trains on the West Coast Mainline?

How about instead of knocking 20 mins off London to Birmingham knocking off 30 mins off Leeds to Manchester, 40 mins off Liverpool to Manchester etc etc. Money far better spent IMHO.
