Latch needed for wrought-iron gate

Hello

My toddler can now force this gate open by giving it a good shove - the fixed leaf is not held at the top so the gate flexes and the catch pops. Can you recommend a better latch which positively locks or would otherwise hold the gate?

As you can see from the picture I have one mounting hole per leaf, but I can drill more if necessary. Welding isn't an option. I only need child resistance, not security against intruders. The gate is used regularly by delivery drivers.

Is the bolt/rivet on the right-hand bit of the latch removable? If so you could bolt on a small metal extension.
If not, you could drill and tap that bit then add the extension.

Yes, it is an Allen head bolt and removable. What do you mean by extension?

Carabiner is one potential option, thanks. If I drill through the flats, where do I mount the bolt? Assuming you mean a tower bolt.

Just put the bolt through the two holes (one hole in each bar) you could put a nut on the bolt just to be sure.
I meant an ordinary everyday bolt 6mm or 8mm by 40mm long would do.

Can’t see top of gate but often easiest place to secure.

I used an "auto latch" which is working well.
