Advice for noisy boiler when switched OFF

Hi all

For context:

Closed system conventional boiler with tank and expansion vessel. Serviced every year, new expansion 6 months ago.
(Ideal Classic LXFF & FF Fanned Flue)

Heating has been switched OFF for last 2 days and hot water runs on timer once a day at 6am for an hour, so rads are cold and waters hot.

Boiler started making noisy sounds about 8pm like there is water rushing through it and kind of like a kettle about to boil, it's now 04:28 (couldn't sleep!) And its still making the noise even though the heatings off and hot water hasn't fired up in almost 24hrs. Any ideas what could cause this? Pressure is sitting stable at 1.5 bars and no water coming from relief valve.

The end switch on one of your zone valves is stuck on, it is not the boiler

Have just gone to it and moved the switch across towards manual and it wound back to auto again so doesn't look stuck in terms of the little lever, any idea how I could tell if the internals are knackered?

If the microswitch inside is stuck it’ll still fire as @ianmcd has said. You could turn boiler switch to off until you can get it sorted.

it isnt the lever, there is a small internal switch inside each valve and one of these is stuck in the closed position

You could turn boiler switch to off until you can get it sorted.

turning the boiler off will stop the kettling noise, but the pump will still run so will still make a noise, to stop the noise you will have to swich off the fused spur to the system,do you have a multi-meter and know how to use it ?

Ah. Right...no I don't have one or know how to use one. Crap. What's the end game? Would something like this normally be a case of getting an engineer to replace the part? I see Honeywell parts aren't that expensive but not sure it's a job I should do or if it has to be a qualified engineer?
