More false information.

The first LEDs I saw was way back in 1973 from RS and they were available in red, green, or yellow.

Then in 1972 Texas produced the TL311 display which was 13 segments.

The brightness of these varied from unit to unit and Texas graded them so that all units in a display would be about the same brightness

it was originally to show its an emergency light and also could be maintained or non maintained, or even sustained, they even now put an led on which will show if the lamp is good or dud.
