some people think that "spreading good news" will raise morale, even when it isn't true, and even when people know it isn't true.

Why are they testing this on the IoW?
Based on the numbers there is a 1:1000 chance of meeting a person with Covid. 1/2 the national avg.

I guess it is just to see the system is working - after a week or so check a few peoples phones and see if contacts are showing up correctly. I take it that the test involves the 'non centralised' version so the only data will be on individuals phones.?

@Mottie - didn't know i was in your gang - LOL

Who to believe then? Matt Hancock specifically said on Breakfast this morning that the data was not centralised, all data was local on your device... not sure how that works anyway? How do you get an alert?

Who to believe? Well not Matt "is that one box of cornflakes or 658 pieces of food" Hancock.

People do not trust the Government as much as they trust the NHS and all this will do is erode trust in the NHS.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/05/04/uk_covid_app_human_rights_parliament/

In response to questions from Scottish Nationalist MP Joanna Cherry this afternoon, Gould told MPs: "The data can be deleted for as long as it's on your own device. Once uploaded all the data will be deleted or fully anonymised with the law, so it can be used for research purposes."

If data has been shared by choice with the NHS, then it can be retained for research in the public interest or by the NHS for planning and delivering services, obviously in line with the law and on the basis of the necessary approvals by law.

So, now I find that there will be no central database and the police are unlikely to have access to your data - until you have allowed the NHS access as the data for it is stored on your phone and not communicated to anyone.
You can't...Big Brother is on to you!

Come on guys, this is the UK we are talking about.
If we can feck something like this up we will, our government could not organise a pizz up in a brewery.
It won't work, it will be too late and then it will be abused.
So behave then you have not so much to worry about....Might just save some lives and end lockdown...Or you wish to sit at home until you are vaccinated?

If you listen to any phone in, every next person reckons the cough and cold they had earlier in the year was definitely the 'rona.

Although whether this is likely to be a closer representation of the real situation, or just a commentary on people who call radio phone ins, who knows?

While I'm skeptical about the apps bizarre use of technology. I'm inclined not believe anything in the register as its pretty much a comic for grumpy tape monkeys.

Monitoring already happens.Car journeys, internet useage, phone usage,,etc all logged. AND..If the govt is half as bad as your paranoia thinks, they are monitoring your subversive anti govt posts and you can expect an early morning visit from the lads with the big red door key!!!

Worked fine during the war...Cannot top a bit positive propaganda..Basic social engineering technique.

Even the Daily Fail is concerned.

NHS Covid contact-tracing app could be ILLEGAL and will cause chaos for Brits' foreign travel because it's incompatible with Apple-Google system

"The software will be tested on the Isle of Wight from this morning onwards - but there are growing concerns about its privacy settings and why the Government shunned a Google-Apple alternative adopted by other countries...

Question marks have been raised after other nations, such as Germany, the Republic of Ireland and Switzerland have chosen to implement a decentralised system - where the data always remains on a person's phone.

Their model, seen as more secure and immune from hacking by some experts due to spreading the collected information, is also backed by tech giants Apple and Google.

The UK has instead developed its own centralised app with data sent to the Government's servers when someone registers coronavirus symptoms, allowing the NHS to send them a test in the post.

Critics have argued that by not using the same app or framework as the Europeans the two systems are not compatible, meaning Brits travelling to those countries could be unnecessarily placed in quarantine for 14 days upon arrival once the lockdown is eased."

Isolationalist ideology over the common good.

Rumour has it that Boris still backs Betamax!

WTF is that supposed to mean?
Behave? how by staying at home? Of course I/we are doing that but you end it with a snidey comment about sitting at home until vaccinated suggesting that staying at home is a bad thing?

This thing really has fekked with your mind and warped it hasn't it, when all you can do is make snide remarks to people.

As for what a newspaper website says? Do any of you actually believe the lying journalists and editors that make things out to be what they are not so that they can sell their trash?

Dunno , at least a third of the Island one cannot get a decent mobile phone signal so it makes it a bit pointless,

A large proportion of Islanders ( about a third ) are elderly and dont know how to operate a modern mobile phone , that is if they have got one . So it makes it a bit pointless .

Tell an Islander that you have a " Bluetooth" and they will advise a trip to the Dentist is necessary .

Maybe this will be a prompt to get some new masts installed.

Let's hope the Islanders don't burn them down.

Their Wicker Man committee should be advised.
