A lot of people voted for Brexit due to the GIGO principle that applies to humans in a slightly different way as well.

So is Brexit good or bad - depends on the motives of the people who produced the garbage in the first place. Politics often makes use of garbage or incomplete information.

People also spout garbage as well rather than fact largely because their opinions are based on garbage from various self interested sources.

Which just goes to show that the fault for Leave prevailing lies firmly with Remain.

- if Leave's campaign was based largely on garbage, it should have been the work of a moment to show it for what it was.
- if so many people wanted Remain, where were they all on voting day? Answer; complacently thought it was "in the bag", and didn't bother.

A lovely thought but the 350m bus slogan was a good example of how that works in practice. It was misleading as hell but it's still not universally agreed it was a lie, or even misleading

It's also harder to deal with as the 'leave' position was so diverse. Johnson and the official leave group or the Garage group, or the other dozen different policies that different people were proposing.

All told, assuming that the truth will out is quite naive

So, what is the point of voting?
Different question entirely. The leave campaign didn't win for a variety of reasons but claiming that disproving any lies or half truths should have been easy isn't fair criticism.
