I am intending to remove and install a new radiator to a different wall in the spare room. The boiler is also in this room, within a cupboard. We also have issues elsewhere in the house where some rads do not get hot so generally I am looking at how to improve things generally. For example, we have 5 radiators coming off 15mm tails although that doesn’t directly affect the spare room.
I removed some floor boards and noticed that there are two microbore tails capped with compression fittings. They must have gone to a older radiator in the past but I haven’t traced where they come from. The current rad is fed by microbore from an adjacent room.
Initially, I though about extending the current radiator pipes to the new radiator but am not a fan of the pipe work generally with microbore. Some of it is quite crushed/compressed elsewhere in the house and I know we have a fair bit of gunk in our system that needs to be cleared out.
Therefore I am considering slicing the 22mm feed from the boiler and running new 15mm tails to the new rad. The run would more or less be a straight line, and I’ll cap the current tails. What I do not know is how many rads are coming off the current tails but generally we don’t have problems upstairs, only down.
Generally, is my plan sound or should I just extend what’s currently there?
