I was going to buy this shoe rack from Amazon, but I thought may I can make my self.

I am a basic DIY'er I have a jigsaw however i'm not going to lie I do find it hard to cut straight lines with it.

However I have alot of spare time on my hands and would like to at least try to make this.
How hard/easy would you think this is? (Would a circular saw be better?) yes I know the cost of one may cost as much as the shoe rack but the experienced gained would be worth it.

It would be near impossible to get a straight line with the jigsaw.
So, my suggestion is to make the rack in wood and stain it different colours for every shelf so to hide imperfection.
Also, sanding down well, almost to a round curve edges will help a lot.
But, think about it, not many people will be admiring this rack and once full of shoes all defects will be disguised.
So on a second thought, go ahead and do it.

I made use of the space above our stairs bulkhead, so I could keep files etc in my office. I built some shelves using a crap jigsaw and a few bits of wood...

I could do much better now but its 'utilitarian'.

However, copying that crap flimsy thing in your image seems pointless. It looks like it would require fixing to a wall in any case.

Some DIY sheds or timber merchants will cut boards to (simple rectangular shapes) for you. Their machines are likely to cut a straighter, squarer edge than you ever could.

I bought all the mat's, got all tools ready, fixings etc and then took my van down for its yearly MOT or service. Then my jigsaw knackered. A bloke I know sold me a budget one for £14 and brought it to my house. It lasted till the end of the job you see above.

£14 is cheap, but £7.99 is cheaper still.

B&Q or Homebase often sell a set of 2 Irwin panel saws for a tenner.
Good value because I have used my set many times over and they are still sharp. Best way to keep them that way is not to put too much pressure on the down stroke and use the full length of the blade. It's amazing how many people only seem to use the third of the blade in the centre by making small strokes.
In school the woodwork teacher taught us to, 'Push with pressure and relax when returning.' Always stuck in my head that, bit like Mr Miagi in Karate Kid, who said, "Wax on, wax off."

I see them on B&Q website but the teeth look large on them will they cut MDF smooth ?

As others I'm sure way more skilled than me have pointed out a jigsaw is a nono unless you use a straight edge to cut with but then the blade may still wander.

Hand saw will not give you the finish unless you are an ace carpenter.

A skill saw with straight edge table saw or flip saw like an elu or dewalt.

Table saw or an Elu type saw will give you the best finish I have an Elu and its just great for work like this. You have a straight edge and a fixed angled blade so unless you're an absolute rookie you can't go wrong.

Maybe look in classifieds for a cheap table saw just make sure you set it up right and have a decent blade. Mind those fingers. Sell table saw after or if you enjoy make more for friends and family
