Well a picture of what you need does help

Sorry ... it's basically a fixed shower head that I need to remove. After I take it down what's left ?.. a pipe end that can be capped, but the tiles will look rough and you would see a small gap where you can see the plaster around the hole. Is there a kind of chrome "flange" (maybe 3" wide) that be clipped over the whole thing to tidy it up ?

Thats a long way short of the 3” you wrote earlier, a cap can be stuck on with Ct1 or equivalent. If you look a newel post cap, they may stand proud enough to fit over the pipe blanking cap

I solved it by just getting a typical chrome flange off ebay with a hole in it and with pliers slightly widening the hole so it fits off the end cap and bit of silicone ... so you can see the end cap in the centre but it looks pretty good and all the tiles around the cap are covered.
