Dripping fixed head on Aqualisa Midas 220 shower

Hi

We have an Aqualisa Midas 220 mixer shower with both a movable head and a fixed head. We only ever use the movable head, never the fixed one.

Over the last couple of months, whenever we turn on the shower, the fixed head starts to slowly drip cold water. So if you're standing in the shower, you get the nice hot flow from the movable head but frequent cold drips from the fixed head. Once you turn off the shower, the dripping stops.

Can anyone please advise me on what might be causing this irritating cold drip? And whether I might be able to fix the problem myself?

Presumably it lets you switch between the fixed head and the moveable head, in which case a leaking diverter valve looks likely.

Hi Accelerator. Thanks for the quick response. Yes, you turn the on/off control towards you for the moveable head and away for the fixed head. Would a leaking diverter valve explain both symptoms: the fixed head dripping only when the moveable head is turned on, not when the shower is off; and the drip being cold? And is replacing the diverter valve something I could try doing myself, or should I call a professional?

Look at showerdoc, etc etc, for pictures of the kits, and prices or you can buy from Aqualisa.

At drip rate, it would take ages for the fixed head to fill with warm water, so it would be cold for all the time you're in the shower. Try opening the valve to the dripping head to let hot water get to it and heat its pipe. Then close it. At least the drips would be warm, then!

Hi Livingstoned. Thanks for your very helpful reply. Stupidly I'd never thought about the fixed head pipe being full of cold water so had been assuming that we had a slow leak from the cold supply. But this morning we tried your suggestion and it worked fine. So we now have a much better idea of what's happening.

I've sent an enquiry to Aqualisa but haven't yet had a reply. Depending on what they advise, I might attempt a fix myself or might book one of their engineers. I'm a long way from being a competent handyman so have to be cautious.

Cold drips - It didn't occur to me for a while!
By the look of it you unscrew the old one and screw in the new one. The instructions will be online. Maybe get a mate to look at it with you - two heads, and all that. Over to you though!
