It was a topic on the Jeremy Vine show today. I personally know of three employees working for different companies while furloughed. I know that they could/should say no but that would put their job in jeopardy. I blame the employers. There’s many working that don’t even know that their employers are claiming furlough money from the Govt. I hope they get caught.

I thought you could have another job while being furloughed? Depends on the contract of your employer anyway. Plus, if you had two jobs at the time of this kicking off, there's nothing to say that you can't be furloughed with one and working at the other I don't think. Or, amazingly, you can be furloughed for both, max £2.5k per employer, potentially earning someone £5k from the gov. Blimey.

I was reading yesterday, quite a lot of employers are making their staff work even though being furloughed. That is bad!

Another interesting situation is how many people will take out these Govt loans through the bank and then liquidate their company, or simply default on the loan.

Working for another company, while furloughed from your employer is not "fraud" - it's allowed.
If you’re referring to my post - "I personally know of three employees working for different companies while furloughed". I meant I personally know of three employees working for three separate companies, not three Employees working for the same company. So, three separate instances of fraud, not just one. (y)

I don't think it's fraud to work for another company while furloughed.

good luck to them. get as much off the basterds as you can.

If I'm reading it right, Mottie is saying the employer is claiming the furlough money and pocketing it while the employees are still working.
Yes, that’s right. I know of three separate employers/companies who are getting furlough money for their staff yet still asking them to work. One of them has been told they are working 'voluntarily'. :cautious:

the govt got the scheme underway very quickly and it utilised the existing PAYE system -so employers could administer the payments through their payroll.

the speed of implementation meant there was little opportunity to iron out fraud -so I guess its inevitable.

Ah, cheers

Was reading just last night (bbc) that there's a risk of criminal record/big fine/prison if they can prove employers deliberately did that. I feel sorry for the people being forced to work, wondering if they say no then that would be the end of their job.
