You should all read the novels - you will get your fill of racism, bigotry, misogyny etc. The character has endured far longer than the books ever will.
If you want to read something then John le Carre novels and writing is far superior to Flemmings.
As to the character - his appeal is due to his behaviour and perhaps anti-hero status. James Bond breaks conventions.

I think bond films are a very over rated pile of v average films.
The first Bond films with Connery were the best because they were something new.
After Connery it was just more of the same old stuff , nothing original or different.
I am surprised people still watch them.
