I need to replace some of the roofing felt in a few places at around the eaves level on my house.

If i cut back the old bituminous felt to where it has not rotted away, are the new modern membranes compatible with the old traditional felt and do i need any sort of joining tape?

also would i need breathable or non breathable membrane?

the house has soffit vents all round and from what i can tell does not have issues with condensation.

cheers

why not just replace like for like 1f is making a bit of a come back.

you can use breathable underlay and you will not need tape, just make sure it is secured down to prevent flap and buzz

underlay support trays are a good upgrade

if you mean underlay support tray, it might . It depends on your felt and roof covering

Would an eaves repair board reach in far enough?

That was the plan but the eaves tray does not reach up far enough.

plan b is to trim the damaged felt, remove the first tile lath then fit a new piece of underlay under the old one with as much overlap as possible then re fit lath/tiles etc.

I guess the old 1F is not breathable so shouldn't make much difference if i repair a small section uising a non breathable membrane

I'm not a roofer but that is pretty much what I did when I took my chimney down.

Other option is to chop the edge off an eaves repair board and use two to make up the extra distance?
