I am working on the budget: I am going to buy a plot of land and 20 ft shipping container to live there. I don't know the location, yet. But I prefer South East England (near London or near the coast).

Please, does anyone know how much will cost me the mains, the connection to the public system of:

1) gas
2) drinking water
3) sewage
4) electricity

and
5) the plot (freehold, only)

Many thanks

You are asking questions that a forum cannot answer , there are far too many variables at play , you will need to contact gasboard , electric board direct but they won't be able to give you an idea of price until you know where the plot of land will be

And as for how much a random , unknown sized , unknown location , plot of land will cost , my crystal ball is on the blink so I won't be able to tell you

.
I only mean an approximate figure.

For example, the connection of all (drinking water, sewage, electricity, gas) about 20 metres from the road to my shipping container: £5,000 or £10,000 ? or more? How much?

And the plot, about 7m x 11m = 77m2 : £5,000 or £10,000 or £15,000 or £20,000 or more? How much?

Again we can't give you an approximate figure , we might as well pull them out of thin air!

Have you considered that you can't just buy a plot a land and dump a shipping container on it, you also need planning permission?

Yes, I want to buy a plot with a planning permission if possible.

I very much doubt it would be classed as a habitable dwelling.

Budget 80k to 800k for a plot with planning. Lower end will be lower end for a reason- in the sticks, no easy access to services.

That's the south east ghettos. More closer to London and more closer to the coast.

Whether a utility company will hook up to a shippong container, or, what building control or local planning have to say if a different thing.

Buy a camper van / bus, and a slip of land to camp on?

I would be amazed if you found a plot of land for sale with planning permission for a shipping container

I mean a planning permission to build a house. (Shipping container or house....there is no difference. Just cheaper. Even to build a house using shipping containers...the result is the same...you can make a luxury house using shipping containers. Using more shipping containers or only one, there is not difference to build a nice little house or a big house to get the permission?)

Or... to buy a small plot and then to ask for the planning permission. Is it difficult to get the planning permission?

Yes there's a lot of difference you can't get planning permission to build a house then stick a shipping container there instead.

I don't know why you plan to do this , bit I can guess it's because you think you can do it on the cheap.

Well think again, the estimated costs the others have given you are higher than what you can buy a ready built house with a freehold , plus you won't get a mortgage on a shipping container , so every cost would have to be met by you up front

You also have no clue what it involves to get a plot of land and build a house on it here in the UK , I don't know how easy it is were you come from but here it's a very strict process

You need to do a lot more research and read up on everything you require to fulfill this dream of yours

I wish you luck

Are you sure they do not give the planning permission to build a house with shipping containers? Why?

Yes, one new 20ft shipping container is only about £4,000. You can have there in it two nice rooms plus toilet, shower, kitchen. I do not believe it would cost you just and only about £4,000 to build such little house with bricks.

A small plot (100m2) of pasture you can get for about £5,000. A small plot in a village to build house there you can get for about £20,000. (Freeholds, of course.)

But I still do not know how much will cost me the connection of drinking water, sewage, electricity, gas to the public system to finish my work on the budget.

Well, you can build a house out of anything, as long as it satisfies the planning authority and adheres to building regulations.

Have a google for the cost of shipping container houses, vs wood frame / prefab houses. I think the consensus is, they are not cheaper.

Its not the cost of the containers, its the money spent on architectural designs to satisfy planning and complying with building regulations for insulation, fire / electrical safety etc

Have you tried calling your local utility company, telling them you are considering a new build and would like ballpark costs to get connected?

I can make a beautiful architectural design to satisfy planning, by myself. Not difficult and is cheap.

I am talking only about one shipping container. It must be cheaper than building with bricks.

I don't know the location, yet. So, I cannot contact my local utility company, yet. First I must make the research about the utilities costs plus find the plot to have the price overview to make the budget.

Yes, insulation, fire / electrical safety etc. that's what I am trying to find out. It's like for 2 bedroom flat.
