Hi,

I self dug my trench for my outbuilding..... the garden is on a slope and the trench has been dug in line with this.

So the concrete level on the lowest part is come out quite a bit...like approx 1m (60cm at the highest point)....its actually coming just above ground level.

What options have i got to drop that concrete level back down to 60cm? can i create a concrete step down even though the trench isnt stepped down?

Thanks

What does this mean? How can the concrete level be above the ground?

Is the bottom of the trench level?

Sorry - if you see the attached photo.... The rebar is in and levelled....the bars towards the back are coming close to ground level as the ground slopes down.

That levels been brought across from the opposit corner where the level is set to 600mm concrete height

I'd be more concerned about the trees myself, what type of sub soil is it.

I wouldn't be too worried about the trees, with the amount of damage to the roots they might not stay upright for much longer.

Its not the trees I'd be concerned about, its the potential for heave and shrinkage of the foundations if the subsoil is shrinkable.

The BCO has been out today and confirmed the sub soil is majority sandy gravel and believes the trees will not cause any issues thank god.
I couldn't really tell from pic, thought it might have been very dry clay.

Majority of those roots are from an old stump that was removed (chopped down about 10years ago).

Luckily the 2 trees together have interlocked roots so they give each other enough support.

To save me drawing it, here are two links with the info

www.iamcivilengineer.com/what-is-stepped-foundation/ - see the drawing near the bottom

and

https://nhbc-standards.co.uk/4-foun...4-3-8-sloping-ground-and-stepped-foundations/ - which details how much overlap is needed on the steps.

You could keep the trench bottom level if you like, or step it as per the link.

Keep any steps to correspond with coursing of your foundation brick or block.

Thanks for that woody mate. My concern was whether you are able to make steps even if the actual trench bottom isn't stepped - aslong as you maintain the minimum concrete depth?
