Seals for dripping basin taps.

One of my basin taps squeals and leaks if someone has a shower (tap and shower run from combi) or runs the other hot water taps. It has now got to the anoyying stage and i'm now going to fix it. The taps are similar to Screwfix Etel basin pillar taps.
Now the questiin is this.
What seals fit this or is it easier replacing the cartridges.

Unfortunately, no. They may be standard, but they may not be, there are literally hundreds of different sizes.

Take the cartridge out and soak for a few hours in a solution of citric acid (from the chemists), operate the tap mid-way through the soak, to ensure the acid gets to all parts. It should then be good as new.

Unless you are in a soft water area where scale isn't a consideration and it's just plain worn, if its 1/4 turn ceramic then a new cartridge would be needed.

Going to get this cartridge off and measured today, so i can pick up one tomorrow from screwfix when i'm at work (it's round the corner from it). However when it comes to taking off the cover that covers the cartridge, it won't budge.

it's similar to this one. Can take the knob off but that body cover is solid and don't want to damage it either.
Any ideas.

They usually just push down into place, try tapping it with a soft mallet at each side.

If you think it screws on, take 18" of strong cord, fold in half, tape the lose ends on the cover then wrap the loop end clockwise around the cover over the earlier coils, so you end up with just the end of the loop. Put a screwdriver through the loop to act as a lever, to give you the leverage to turn the cover. Ide is, the cord tightens its grip, the harder you try to turn it.

The proper professional, metal ones are much better than the cheap plastic ones.

When replacing cartridges you take the cartridge and the tap head to a merchants to match up.....forget screwfix you need a decent plumbers merchants to sort it out.

The splines on the top come in different sizes to suit the tap head that's why you HAVE to take both in !
