Coronavirus testing.

What’s your personal experience of coronavirus testing? I’ve not been tested, my wife had an antibody test at the hospital she works at, negative, and a random through the post test, also negative. A mate had a random through the post test, negative. My mum has had a couple of tests when in hospital, negative, and has signed up for testing once a week for four weeks then once a month for a year in her house by Oxford university on behalf of the ONS and she’s getting paid to do it! DIL has had a temperature today and not feeling too well so has a test booked for tomorrow in Greenwich. They live in Chelmsford! Don’t know how they’d manage to get there if they didn’t have a car. They have a drive through test - they could have got a nearer test but was a walk-in and they didn’t fancy standing in a queue with a 20 month old kid amongst those that have symptoms.

What’s been your experience of testing so far? I don’t know anyone personally thats been tested positive. Do you?

I've had the test ; negative.

As far as I can tell, it's a clusterfook. The whole thing is full of contradictions.

Pretty much any cold falls into the category of "symptoms", for which you're supposed to either self - isolate, or get a test.
If you even manage to get a test, you've effectively painted a red cross on your front door, so your whole family has to isolate too.
The longer it takes to get a result, the longer you are not at work, and your kids not at school.

We were emailed yesterday about our second-born 's year being excluded for a fortnight, because one kid had tested positive.
200 kids having the fortnight off, and having to isolate at home. Even without any symptoms. BUT,
government guidance separately says that, if they only have symptoms of a cold, they should go to school.
So, no symptoms but in the same year as a kid they never speak with : have a fortnight off.
But, cough, splutter, but "it's probably just a cold", come in as normal.

Have heard that in such circumstances siblings can continue going to school.

Well actually someone was supposed to have been tested positive at a place where a relative works, but it turned out to be a false positive...

Now I've been trying to avoid the conspiracy theorists approach to this 'virus', but as time goes by I'm finding it harder to resist...

Is it as lethal as we have been led to believe, or is it simply a more virulent version of influenza?

What is certain is that many governments around the world are taking advantage, and are enacting draconian rules/decrees that negatively affect individual freedoms more than has been seen in living memory!

Covid isn't influenza, so no, it's not a virulent version of it.

And.. do you really think that countries would go into economic meltdown just to stop people going out in groups and wear a mask? Where is the advantage to our government and those around the world please?

Anyone in charge of a country who ignores what is going on elsewhere in the world with how they reacted to covid - and then loads of their population die when it may have been avoidable would no longer be in power.

Don't forget that you are looking at things with hindsight and it may not have been 'just a few lives'. Nobody really knew how many people would die, all they knew was it was acting in ways that no other virus had done so.

Avoidance from you. Why don't you just explain to me what you think the government(s) are actually gaining by this. In all honesty. Just clear, concise and factual.

Two people in the building I work (approx 150 people over 2 floors) have died due to Covid, one was over 50 and one over 60. I didn't know them but they appeared healthy. A further person there suffered from Covid but was well again within around 10 days, he is only 21 years old though. 95% of all the staff now work from home.
Outside of work 3 teenagers from the same family caught Covid in my village, they believed they caught it at a rave near London, all have recovered. A friends father died of pneumonia after just over a week of being diagnosed Covid positive, he was 76 years old. The interesting thing about him is his entire extended family are Covid sceptic, never headed government and continued to mingle right through lockdown. They also maintain that he got pneumonia and then caught Covid in hospital all in less than a two week period, so it is possible he might have died from pneumonia anyway.
One further death that I know of is a friends brother who caught Covid in hospital. He had terminal lung cancer, was aged 52 and would, unfortunately have passed away by now even if he had not caught it.
Testing in my area still remains accessible at the moment. I only know that because many of the children where my kids are at school have caught colds and some their parents are sending them to be tested. None that I am aware of have tested positive.

Got a postal test early on as part of the launch trial - negative

my mrs was “randomly” selected in Athens airport, negative in July. Later in August some friends joined us and all the airport testing had been shut down.

I’ve been keeping a temperature log for the last 8 weeks as it’s mandatory in Greece.

What’s your personal experience of coronavirus testing?

It made me gag and made my eyes water. No biggie, more the drive to a busy city hospital and back. I've got to do it all over again in a couple of weeks.
