They must be extra busy booking in customer's services - otherwise why would I have been hanging on to their 'service and repairs' line for 47 minutes earlier today?

I gave up after hanging on listening to the message that said I could book a £90 boiler service - or enrol on an installer's training course if I was a Gas Safe installer - and "would I please be a little patient" - and being told I was 4th in the queue to be answered ... then 3rd ... then 2nd ... then 1st ... then 2nd again ... then 1st again ... but not, actually, being answered at all.

So I rang again and this time pressed the 'customer service' button - and a lady answered quickly but told me I need the other department (the one I couldn't get through to) and when I said I'd just waited for 47 minutes she advised me that they must be extra busy - we agreed on that - and she offered to get someone to ring me back.

I'm still awaiting that call.

She did give me a direct phone number to ring, which I did but the message on the line was the same as the one I'd been listening to earlier so presumed I'd not be any better off - and gave up.

Of course there's COVID and of course it's a chilly early November morning so presumably everyone's boiler has stopped working, but I did think a smaller, more personal type of organization such as Intergas would be conscious that 47 minutes is long enough to wait and that if they did get a subsequent call from a prospective customer trying to make a pre-purchase enquiry, then they might want to ring the prospective customer back.

And the bit in the message about recruiting new installers and getting them on a training course didn't help either as if they're struggling to meet the needs of existing customers then they should sort that out before trying to enrol more installers.

It may well be that Worcester, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Viessman are no better. But it ain't 'alf frustrating.

^^ That may well be the case but they need new customers to pay the wages of the new installers and, as far as they were concerned, I might well have become a new customer .... i.e. new Intergas boiler and annual servicing - and I might have told a neighbour who tells his mate etc etc ....

.... but, no ..... I rang them back at 4pm to tell them that they hadn't called me back - and the bloke said "I'll go upstairs now and put a note on the person's desk and they'll ring you".

And did they ring back ?

Did they billhooks.

At least I can cross them off the list of possible manufacturers to choose from.

I got no email reply from them when I was looking for a new boiler and I had a query. By the time they got back to me, I had chosen another make. According to some of the influencers, sorry, installers on here, they don’t have a need for repairers as they don’t go wrong.

Vaillant EcoTec Plus 418. I wanted to know whether the Intergas OV could be used in a sealed system. They eventually said no and said I needed the system boiler. Both rated at 3bar so I can’t see why either couldn’t be used in a sealed system.

Why ring Service and Repair line if you wanted to buy then? You are not making sense.

In case anyone does happen to wonder the reason I was trying to speak to them ... it was to point out that the list of Approved Installers on their website has recently changed and there are none appearing, whereas there were half a dozen before.

I believe their criteria for listing Approved Installers on their website has now changed, which is fair enough ... if they want to change things then so be it, but I still wanted to ask them if there was actually anyone within a 30 mile radius who they would be happy to fit a boiler for me.

My reckoning is - if they can't address a simple pre-purchase query like that BEFORE I buy from them, what's it gonna be like AFTER I've given them my money?

How long does a brief phone call take? Or, if they're THAT busy, can they not call me and say they haven't got five minutes right now but they'll ring tomorrow or next wekk or whatever?

No, I'm sorry, but they might be the best thing since sliced bread and their boiler could be amazing but if that's how they treat prospective customers, then they can whistle.

Sorry, just pumps, our posts crossed.

Does my explanation pass muster with you?

Thanks, Mottie.

The Vaillant Ecotec 418 was (is?) an obvious alternative. I only want "Heat Only" and 18kw is about the right size. As we all know each and every recommendation for a replacement boiler will have it's advocates and it's detractors and I've been studying form for a while but there hasn't been one "stand out" replacement.

Money isn't the issue, nor is super efficiency or maximum bells and whistles, it's reliability and decent service in the event of a problem. And I've seen Woercester, Vaillant, Viessman, Atag, Ideal, Baxi and Intergas all respectively slated and praised for the reasons that we all know.

Yeah, I would of sent an email myself but each to their own.

Understood.

But, call me old fashioned, before I buy something as substantial as this I try to do a bit of sensible homework and part of that is to see what sort of reception I get when I ring them. Mainly to see if I can get to speak to a human being at the end of a phone - and my reasoning for that is pretty plain ... if it goes wrong on a cold wet day when the dog's just died and the car won't start and my back just started to ache I want to have a dialogue with a person to reassure me and offer some moral and/or practical assistance. And, it might never have happened to you, just pumps, but in my case not every email I send gets replied to the same day

Meh win some and lose some.

Though to be honest if you are ringing all these companies are you going to make a post about each and every one of them that doesn't satisfy you?

I'm not discounting your entitlement to be disappointed with them and you gave them plenty of chances, but did it really require a post about it, likely not.

In which case I sincerely apolgise for taking up your valuable time in having to read it and reply to it.

Oh wait ... you didn't have to read it or reply to it, you could have just ignored it.

Silly me, I thought this was a forum to discuss this sort of thing. Pardon me, I'll know better next time.

Yes, I have the EcoTec Plus 418. The EcoFit pure 418 is cheaper but I think I read somewhere that it’s another make rebadged as Vaillant and not as good. Not sure which one - might have been a Glow worm but can’t remember now.
