Multi finish set time

My neighbour was just asking about their plasterer. He was there in the morning multi finished a dry lined stud wall, at 10 and was still there 3hours later 'finishing' it with a trowel and sponge. IIRC set time is 90 finish is 120mins does finish mean beyond that you can't do much to it?
Does it really take that long to finish? Not saying he's justifying charging for 3/4day but...

its 3 hours a job with multi, or its a mess. no matter how small the job is.
your neighbour should be thankful, could be even longer this time of year.
although it is board so could be slightly quicker, and alarm bells at the sponge?
sponges are for cleaning cars.

that did tickle me ive seen them use brushes and flick? But same hence me mentioning a sponge never heard of that one. Thanks for clarifying all the same.

sponging is quite popular these days , especially with the super flexible trowels available. trouble is you get left with a 75-80% finish.
whereas two coating takes the same amount of time or very slightly longer but should end up in perfection.
fyi they sponge the surface of the plaster to break the plaster back down to fines and use it as a ‘fake’ second coat if you like. youngsters mainly

Colder damper days slows sets. I use a product called half time to speed the sets but banging on don't take long. Its the finishing off that takes the time. As for charging I don't do ½ days or ¾ now. Full days pay. Just saying. I need to earn a living. Just saying...

Exactly, plus travelling there and back to do the job.

I dont do ‘days’ .
the price is for the job . whether it takes an hour or 2 weeks. take it or leave it.
