How much will it cost to get a plumber to replace toilet siphon?

My toilet siphon needs replacing - so that I know that I'm not being overcharged, roughly how much will it cost to get a plumber to have it replaced and how long does the work take to complete?

With this 3 part siphon, it seems that the siphon can be replaced without removing the toilet cistern which makes the job much easier. However, looking at the reviews on Amazon, people have said that the siphon that's being sold is made differently, so the part supplied doesn't appear to be compatible - the threading part. Does anyone know whether there's a similar model that's compatible to the Macdee metro 3 part syphon range?

It might be that Amazon are selling a different type, be careful, use a local independent merchant or indeed a national one. If it’s the membrane that’s torn (likely) then these are usually replaceable, a good deal cheaper than new syphon.

It might be that Amazon are selling a different type, be careful, use a local independent merchant or indeed a national one. If it’s the membrane that’s torn (likely) then these are usually replaceable, a good deal cheaper than new syphon.

I've tried looking at websites like Toolstation and Screwfix but they don't seem to stock this brand

What's broken is the plastic rod where the metal hook loops through it - it snapped when I tried to flush the toilet and now the rod has sunken inside the siphon.

I used Plumb Centre (now branded as Wolseley) in the past to replace a syphon on quite an old toilet, took the old one out and went round there , They didnt quite look the same as the design had changed but fitted and worked the same way.

How strange...when I went onto the Wolseley website and typed in Macdee syphon, it didn't show this model in the search results, but when clicking on the link you provided, I can see that they have this model in stock at the 3 nearest branches. I googled Macdee syphon, but I’ve just struggled to look it up several ways, trouble is they’ve got several brand names (Wirquin, macdee, celmac), but I still couldn’t find it that way either! Probably the way it’s been entered on the website lookup function.

Looks like a standard syphon you can get anywhere to me.

Get one of these and pop it in. If it's closed coupled then you may need a new doughnut/nuts and bolts or a plate kit with captive bolts, check underneath the cistern.

Parts £20 max then use ya nogging to see if you are being over charged....

Some plumbers charge a fortune just to tighten a few nuts.....skilled work I think they call it....
