Looking forward to the future, and seeing as my boy missed out on all the fun things we had planned last year,

So we are thinking of taking him to Legoland for his birthday in April.

Ideally we would like to make it really special for him and stay in the proper Legoland hotel, but the cost is quite a lot of money.

Has anyone stayed at the other hotels that are affiliated with the park?

Has anyone ever stayed at any of these and/or the official Legoland hotel?

Would we be watering down the experience by staying at the unofficial hotels?

We have done Lego land a couple of times. Never stayed... I popped into the hotel for a wee, I thought then i would be nice to stay. But it is bloody expensive, I rather spend that money on a couple more nights extra holiday.

We went a few years ago but, as it was so pricey, stayed in a holiday inn in Slough.

Hotel was rubbish, and slough was a dump.
The walk from the off-site carpark to the hotel was not one I was comfortable making either, especially after dark.

Probably expensive but Oakley Court is nice- it used to be featured in loads of Hammer movies before restoration.
Tons of hotels in the Windsor area

A friend of mine did similar a couple of years ago, he had free tickets for Windsor Castle. I talked him out of staying in Slough (I know Slough well) so he booked the Royal Adelaide in Windsor, expensive plus an additional 30 quid a night for parking. Second time he went he stayed over the river in Eton, Christopher Hotel I think, much cheaper. I'd given him an extensive list of the finest drinkeries and he really enjoyed it.

I spent many happy Saturday nights on Eton High St, The College Arms and the Watermans Arms with several stops in between. Windsor was becoming a bit rough at night in those days.

The way things are, most hotels will be trying to do whatever they can to get business back so its a guests market and will be in April.
So look around for a nice hotel but haggle the costs.

Cheers guys, so you don't think the experience of staying in the Legoland hotel is worth the extra cost

We stayed at the Christopher Wren hotel right on the river and it was okayish. Parking was a bugger though as they have a small car park, cram them in and are always shunting your car around. I think we ended up parking in the station car park. Mind you, that was nearly 15 years ago so it may have changed!

If anything it will be worse. Christopher Hotel is half way up Eton High St, used to go to discos there in my teens, I don't think it was a hotel in those days.

Coincidentally before legoland existed it was Windsor Safari Park and for some years after it's closure there was a disco I frequented there.

Looks like this trip might be off now for a while as we in another lockdown.

Luckily again we haven't promised him yet. Will see what happens nearer the time now.

Worked there when it was both the safari park and legoland when living in Windsor and recall all the pubs and hotels mentioned including the disco at the white house.
Wouldn`t stay at the onsite hotel myself but then neither would I stay in Sluff, instead look the other way towards Ascot, Viginia Water and Sunningdale but they are all expensive and won`t offer your boy any entertainment.

My main memory of the white house disco was one saturday night meeting a girl, Sue was her name. We had a few dances, I bought her a drink or two and at the end of the evening I offered her a lift home. She accepted and told me she lived in Bracknell. A slight nuisance because Bracknell was a fair distance and the opposite direction to Slough. Anyway, I drove her home in my Mk2 Cortina, I wasn't really familiar with Bracknell so she directed me and eventually ended up on a large housing estate, she said 'I live there, middle house'. It was an average house fronted by a communal 'green' with a couple of trees. We had a snog and I asked her if I could see her again, she said yes and I arranged to pick her up the following night at 7pm.

The following night I found the estate no problem but was struggling to find her house, it was a large estate and my recollection of a small row of houses, fronted by a communal green, couple of trees was a description that seemed to fit quite a few of the houses on this particular estate.

Eventually I pulled over and parked at what I was fairly sure was where I'd stopped the night before. I walked across the green and there was a couple of kids playing football so just to be on the safe side I said to the lads 'oi, what house does Sue live in lads', 'that house over there mister'.

I knocked on the door and said to the middle aged lady 'is Sue in', the lady explained that Sue had popped down to the shops but invited me in. Sue's parents were lovely and we got on really well, she offered me a cup of tea which I accepted and then insisted I have a piece of cake.

Ten minutes later I'm sitting there, chatting away, cup of tea in one hand, cake in the other when we heard the front door open, 'that'll be Sue' said the lady, and in walked a girl I'd never seen before in my life.

Haha.
Sounds like the Great Hollands housing estate, two main roads and gawd knows how many cul-de-sacs.
