Hi,

I'm having a water softener installed soon and struggling to find a full bore 22mm 3/4" braided hose. The ones available from the softener manufacturer are 17mm bore and I have an system boiler with unvented cylinder and 3 bathrooms in my property and worried about restricting flow due to a smaller bore on the softener hoses.

Alternatively, there is a 28mm hose available that has a larger bore but comes on a 1" fitting. Would it be worth getting the 28mm hose and finding a coupler/reducer to fit the 3/4" fitting on the softener? Or can someone point me in the direction of where I might be able to find 22mm full bore hoses?

Thanks in advance :)

The largest you'll probably get is around 19-20mm. All you need to check is, once fitted, that you still get the desired flow and pressure from it, if you do then fine, if not then you need to up the size.

Thank you for the help. I decided on getting a 28mm braided hose with a 21mm internal bore and paired that with a brass 28mm to 22mm reducers.

Thanks again for the input.

Braided hoses are the biggest cause of insurance claims for floods in houses when they fail !

Have it done in copper !

Thats really helpful. Once I have my kitchen renovated, I will get it plumbed in with copper instead of the braided hoses.

It was an insurance loss adjuster that told me that ........I asked what the biggest problems were for house insurance claims ......braided tap hoses failing was the answer!

Could you post the links to the hose and reducers you got please.

For those that are connecting the water2buy 1 inch hose to an existing 3/4" stopcock that is already connected to a 22mm copper pipe, you will need a 1" male to 3/4" female reducing bush. I needed 4 of these bushes. 2 for the harveys water softener inlet and outlet connections, and 2 for the inlet and outlet 3/4" stopcock connected to the 22mm copper pipes.

Stopcocks connected to 22mm copper pipes are 3/4" bsp.

The bushes are available from screwfix with product code 28333 and they are £1.79 (12/08/2023).

Hope this helps.
