When fitting new windows, the fitters smashed a metal drain inspection cover. Dropped a scaffold pole on it. By agreement, I'm not making the final payment until all snags are resolved.

Inspection cover is apparently a non standard size (old house) and they are struggling to find replacement. Its 640x490mm

Assuming a replacement cannot be sourced, what sort of cost should I expect to pay to have a new one fitted (as in, dig out old and supply / fit new frame and cover)

They're asking for some of the remaining balance (which is fair) although want to keep enough back should I have to pay someome to repair it myself.

I'm pretty sure they'll do it but am risk averse - if they do fold or evaporate as a company I want to be sure I have the original funds to cover it.

Ballpark?

Couple of hours work and a few engineering bricks I’d say - £150 tops? You can get 600x450 ish covers so top brick course probably just needs corbeling in a bit. Doubt it’s a biggie, did one recently within an hour.

What’s the surface around the manhole?

Buried concrete thing.
