I am about to install a 40mm thick wooden worktop (600mm wide) in the kitchen I have just fitted. It's the first time I have done it and it's all new to me so I have a couple of questions.

I have an unsupported span of 120cm over two freestanding units. Will the worktop be okay over this or do I really need some support?

Where I am using a butt joint to join my worktop together, using routed out holes for bolts, should I seal it with a low modulus sealant or just oil it very well? I have seen conflicting advice on this.

Thank you for any help!

Centre support would be ideal , oil both sides before fitting (would recommend Osmo top oil).

Brilliant, thanks. So just oil both ends well, join them up then keep oiling the join until no more is absorbed?

Thanks!
