Trying To Extend Main House Alarm To Garage With Texecom Wireless PIR

Unfortunately you will always need to check the recommendations for each wireless device. Many a problem folk buying off ebay and buying old expanders.

Light and temperature values are a bit of gimmick from many manufacturers as you can't use them currently but that's coming

In that thread to which you refer the XT if I recall correctly it was stated that the XT was better than some PIR's inaccurately, but in fact if you research the products correctly you will see progression IR XT QD DT and the device Price is reflected accordingly. So you would expect a basic IR to be cheaper than an XT an XT to be cheaper than a QD and a DT to be the most expensive.

So if you wanted a DT-W you needed version 2.x expander, version 3 expander for wireless keypad version 2.x for wireless bell.

So you need to check wireless devices, in some cases panel firmware needs upgrading also.

Older wireless devices don't tend to have temperature so an impaq plus w wouldn't do temp but Micro shocks and contacts would will as will the SC-W

The capture DT-W does do temperature as you might expect as it's a new wireless device

Guessing you have the compact xt-w as the first pirs on Ricochet were full size XT and QD-W

shame about the DT-W being faulty as that is the best wireless sensor for the garage on your system and they are not cheap devices.

What I don't know is when the light or temperature changes in the app, ie significant change or when the device polls (15 minutes) or activation, I suspect its the later two without checking properly and just tried a sensor near a hot radiator for over a minute and no change but didn't check the device for elevation of temperature.

So it will have some limitations, its the same for most manufacturers that have these sensors for reporting environmental conditions.

You are absolutely correct ! Probably not a good idea to buy PIR's from eBay. I purchase all PIR's from various security companies online so they are new.

Price is reflected accordingly. So you would expect a basic IR to be cheaper than an XT an XT to be cheaper than a QD and a DT to be the most expensive.

Quite disappointing about the DT as per your post above, they are not cheap. I will go for another QD or DT but maybe from a different supplier.

I'll just run the XT for a while to make sure everything is fine on the whoe Mesh network. So far so good and I'm confident the issue was the DT.

So if you wanted a DT-W you needed version 2.x expander, version 3 expander for wireless keypad version 2.x for wireless bell.

So i'm guessing these versions you stated are the recomended minimum ?

Yea the captures look interesting and it looks like Texe have finally applied many years of R&D and are preparing for the future of Texe. I did have a look but didn't see a DT-W. See below

Capture P15/Q20/D20, all with optional Pet Mode.

P15 - 15m PIR, Dual, 15m / 90˚ volumetric coverage
Q20 - 20m Quad PIR, 20m / 20m / 90˚ volumetric coverage
D20 - 20m Dual Tech, 20m / 20m / 85˚ volumetric coverage

Yes I believe the temp update after device poll but that's better than nothing :)

main issue with ebay is the expanders bought which deliberately don't disclose the version. As the expanders support earlier devices, its only the newer products you have to watch out for not being compatible.

P15 to replace PW /PW-W
Q20 to replace QD/QD-W
D20 to replace DT/DT-W

(-W for wireless variant, you cant use a wireless device on a different manufactures panel without a wireless to hard wired zone converter which many manufactures do).

I say replace time will tell, but equivalents, you notice no XT or X, that is because effectively that would be the petwise in none pet mode is my understanding.

Basically when a new wireless device is made, it depends on the capability of how the expander handles the signal.
So when the Version 1 expanders were released they only covered basic functionality. (green sticker on the chip on the board no version number usually).

When DT-W were released they needed to accommodate the wake up of the microwave component.

When the wireless keypad was introduced, my understanding the wireless expander pcb had physical changes to make it work as well as firmware changes.

There was an issue documented that some DT-W's weren't working from memory but that was some time ago now, as I remember going back and doing remote walk testing of all the recently installed DT-W of which all of them were okay.

Which to be fair is what I expected as i always walk test after an install and on the DT's adjust if necessary.

It is good to know the cable wasn't the issue however if you have power going past it, it could cause problems, think Sally2000 posted on this forum about an outside light interfering, due to power cable running past the unit.

Always follow good practices and then the number of issues to eliminate to resolve become limited, and help you keep more of your hair.

Wintex, ricochet monitor needs to be up to date to display the latest devices correctly and have the correct options available wrt to wintex.

That is why version numbers of panels and expanders are so important as options can change.

In the case of a fire 15 minutes could be a problem although there are smoke modules which would be a better way to go.

but for central heating control it be less of an issue but looking at control every 15 minutes if a device isn't activated. It is also good for identifying cold spots.

To be fair in a clean well used garage you may get away with the XT, also when a device has false alarmed the temperature is another tool for trying to work out what is going on.

Seen some beautiful garages that are better kept than the rest of the clients house.
