Rear car light unit casing

Hi guys..if its not one thing its another.. the rear light lens casing fell off, no way to stick it back on...temporarily used some wrapping tape to hold it on..lol
What's the best way to stick it back on..was thinking , remove the whole light...take it inside the house , seal the edges with clear silicone sealant, put a few rubber bands around it to hold it till set, then put it back on the car...or is that to extreme

Yes, that should be fine. Give it plenty of time to set though!

Yeah. That's it.
Like silicone so can't wipe off with damp sponge. Masking tape is your friend so tape off where you don't want it to overrun. Apply mastic. Smooth off. Pull tape then smooth and tidy is one method keeping where you want it.
