Hi all, can anyone recommend a boiler that Screwfix is selling?
We have a detached, 4 bedroom House (with 1 family bathroom and 1 ensuite).
Thanks in advance!

Screwfix aren't always very well priced, and the range they offer isn't the best. Why does it need to come from Screwfix? What type of boiler do you need? Combi? System? Regular?

It’s hard to tell what your reasons are for wanting a boiler from screw fix. I would engage with a heating engineer to discuss the options as the first thing.

some won’t fit something they have not supplied.

If you are a boiler repair engineer in need of regular work it is

hahahah quite right.

However my brand new Main eco elite 30 (aka baxi 630) also had a very slow leak above diverter valve which has just been sorted its just over 1 year old.

Because it's convenient for me, and because I can get things at a very good price from them.

I'd prefer a Combi as past experiences with a Combi have been very popular. It also seems to be the cheaper option. Just worried if it's the right thing to do, as people have told me that a Combi wouldn't work for a house our size with 2 bathrooms (13 radiators).

I have 3 bathrooms in my house but 2 of those also have triton electric showers as well as baths, we have never used both at same time, i prefer a combi as it reduces teh complexity of tanks, pipework, pumps etc. But then you are at mercy of misnm water but the 16 years i have lived with a combi the water was only gone for a few hours due to burst mains, mains works, etc.

You need to know your mains flow rate & pressure before going for a combi. Combi boilers are sized for hot water production and are almost always too powerful for the heating system they're attached to, although ones with decent modulation do overcome this. Most combi boilers won't run two showers at the same time, so you need to consider your usage.

If you want to use the bathrooms/showers at the same time with the possibility of other hot/cold water outlets being used at that time too, then a combi possibly isn't what you'll need.

Get a recommended central heating installer to do a site survey and give you recommendations.

Mains water here can be a bit hit and miss. . But as it's just 2 adults, we can live with that. Don't want any power showers as I don't like the look of them. And yeah, Combi just seems like the cheaper option, with less labour and less parts involved.

  • 2 tanks in the loft. One for the heating, another for taps/showers.
  • Insulated storage tank in an airing cupboard on the first floor.
  • Potterton Netaheat Profile 80e in another airing cupboard on the ground floor.

All taking up too much space, so want to move it all in to the loft and against 1 wall.
