A top civil servant joined financial firm Greensill Capital as an adviser while still working for the government, a lobbying watchdog has revealed.

Bill Crothers's part-time position had been "agreed" to by the Cabinet Office, the Office of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments added.

Cameron was sending text messages to Rishi Sunak asking him if he couls loosen the requirements for Greensill to access loans but also access a loan itself. Greensill was closely involved with Gupta who is accused of using fraudulent invoices with Greensill to raise finance.

This is so fraudulent and disgusting- billions of tax payers money is lost.

This is what you get when a Government weakens the checks and balances. Shame on anyone who tried to defend this.

This pretty much will end Rishi chances of being PM. The man who loves to be in front of the camera was decidely absent when he failed to turn up to answer questions in the commons.

"The government has rejected Labour's call for a full parliamentary inquiry into lobbying and the contacts between government and Greensill Capital.
Boris Johnson has launched a review by a government lawyer into the finance firm's links to David Cameron and top civil servants in his administration.
Labour wants a broader inquiry into lobbying by a cross-party panel of MPs.
The government says its review is the "right thing to do" and will order Tory MPs to vote against Labour's plan."

So a complete (but expensive) whitewash...

But were it Labour in power they would do the same...

The whole system of government is corrupt...

But then that's what 'the people' keep voting for (n)

As to the man leading the inquiry.

The man investigating why the chancellor pushed his team to give Greensill Capital access to the CCFF works for the law firm that advised the Treasury on the CCFF.

They are all at it. Remember the scandal over voice mails that led to the News of the world crashing, Alastair Campbell, peter mandelson, weapons of mass destruction.

Anyone in politics is only in it for what they can get and get away with.

I agree with old salt.

The only difference is that the Tories are more blatant about it.

What's slightly more grating is that not even one apology, it's clearly unethical but "within the rules" I'd have thought Cameron would have said it was a bad judgement, but nope, just insists it wasn't technically illegal

And this government got the public to vote for Brexit....giving the government more power to for corruption on a huge scale.

Just watching politics live, it's a good one today, starmer seems to have had an adrenaline shot today.

I think it's 50/50 I can see the points of both sides.

I think it's a shame Starmer has the perpetual look of a rabbit in headlights.

For those interested, at prime ministers questions, the leader of the opposition gets 6 questions. The SNP leader gets 2 questions.

99% of the time Johnson answers 0 questions.

Although it's live, Johnson has rehearsed answers: some are jokes, some are grandstanding, occasionally he actually answers a question.

Does beg the question though, if brexit was such an easily demonstrable s**tshower, why didn't the remain camp do a better job of demonstrating all of the downsides. After all there were pretty evenly split leave and remain factions in both Labour and Conservative.

Correct me by all means, but doesn't the PM have all the primary Qs in advance?

Simples

Because it's far easier to sell emotive slogans than boring detail on the benefits of the Single Market.

Add in the decades of gaslighting by the media
Add in the many years of successive governments using the EU as a scapegoat for domestic political failures
Add in the easily sold blaming of immigrants
Add in the huge complexity of the issues

And you get a referendum campaign that is easily manipulated.

I think we all know referendums are bad.

I don't think it would helped if the vote was a narrow win for remain....the division would've been just as bad, if not worse.

standards in this country have dropped , they have gone down hill ever since we joined the EU ;)

the country has been corrupted by there low standards (French)

cronyism , back handers , dodgy favours , corruption , swindeling , policy made with a nod and a wink

Foreigners ;)
