Hi all
I want to concrete this area (see pic)
I calculate its 8.4sqm and roughly is 100mm deep so 0.84 cube need to be filled
My questions are:
1. what mix should I use and if it is sand and agregate mix is this something I can buy already mixed?
2. should I place any expansion joints?
Any advice appreciated
Thanks
legepe

2 jumbo bags of ballast and about 10 bags of cement, 6:1. No expansion joints.

Hi again.. finished concreting but look what ive got now.. the run off had to go that way to where its flooding.. is there an easy way to fix this?
Again any advice very welcome

Any ideas on what i can do to solve this problem.. anyone there..? please help!

I presume you didn't plan the falls beforehand. The proper solution is some drainage, but you might get away with cutting some drainage grooves with a grinder or some strategic placed drainage holes drilled through the concrete.

Hi there... I did plan on the fall going that way.. it was a continuation of the fall of concrete already there and then I had to meet up with the original path at the side of the house which was higher so ended up with a high to low to high scenario and I don't think I had an option with that... I thought it would just soak away without flooding.. I like the sound of what youve suggested though.. I was getting a bit peed off that I had messed this up and there wasnt going to be an easy solution

Just regarding proper drainage... can this go into sewer? or if not where would it go?

The only other way I thought might work was to dig out a channel 12" wide and around 24" deep along the edge of the drive then fill in with stones, then put 4" of soil on the top for the grass - do you think this would work?

Ive had another look at this and it might be possible to grind out this type of line.. not sure how neat it would be though.. do you think that this might be possible and would it work..? other problem here is where ive lined it in red I was going to concrete. Also, where would you drill holes?

Drainage into surface water drains, or combined if you have them, or a soakaway (your trench full of stones idea) depending on your ground conditions, but you'll need to put in channels to collect the water. As the puddles seem quite shallow, a few slots might work, they just need to slope away from the bottom of the puddles to a drained edge. If the ground under the slab is porous then some decent sized holes (at least half an inch) at the lowest points will help as well.

To be honest it's all a bit bodgy, in the longer term you might be better off breaking it all out and redoing it with proper falls to suitable drainage, or consider getting it tarmacked (or splash out on resin), where you could probably get it sorted with a bit of thought.

Thanks for getting back to me cdbe...
I know that its all a bit of a bodge and it all wants ripping up.. just don't know if Im staying put here so reluctant to spend more money. however, I suppose this comes with its own set of problems! the ground here has a very low soil to clay level which I guess does not help and ive taken around 2 ton of waste out of topsoil which has obviously lowered the level
I think for the moment I wont concrete the other side.. I will dig out a trench and fill with some kind of stones and just drill some holes in the concrete at the low point of the puddle in the middle of drive with possibly a channel gound out. With hindsight I would have possibly not gone so steep angle with the runoff, but I think I would still have a similar problem with heavy rainfall
Anyway, thanks again

ps: any idea what stones would be best to use as a soakaway?
