I'm in a new build house and would like to swap out my pendant light fittings in my hallway and upstairs landing.

I would hire an electrician to do this but just would firstly like to know if it's a simple enough job or if it's more complicated/ their position may need moved/ ceiling needs cut etc.?

These are the pendants I currently have and the lights I would like...

Thanks

pics of the inside of the new light will help. if you are lucky the existing plate with the connections on will fit inside the new light and then it will only be three connections rather than undoing all the existing ones

difficult to tell from just the drawings. I have in the past got away with doing as i describe by using the existing fixing screws to the ceiling plate to hold the new light mounting bracket. undo the screws and slide the bracket behind the old plate, refit screws. if the new light doesnt have very long cables inside the cover it can be "fun" trying to get them into the old plate.

As you intend to use an electrician ,its a Simple job for one.

How much of a pain it is to swap in fancy light fittings depends on two main factors.

The first is how the existing lighting is wired, some wiring schemes take only a single cable to the light, others bring three cables to the light.

The second is the design of the fitting regarding wiring space and cable entry.

If there is only a single cable to the light then it's easy, if the fitting has plenty of usable wiring room it's easy, but if you have multiple cables into a fitting with little usable wiring room or small cable entries then it can become more of a pain. In extreme cases it may be nessacery to add a junction box above the fitting so a single cable can be taken to the light.
