My floor level at the rear of the house is about 1.2m above the lawn level.
We will have a bifold door and want to step out onto a patio that is level with the internal floor. This means that the patio will be about 9m x 3m and 1.2 meters off the ground. We plan to have some steps leading down to the lawn and rail balustrade all around the patio for safety.
The whole patio will be paved with some natural stone such as sandstone.
I am uneasy at the thought of using so much concrete to build up the patio - about 35 to 40 cubic meters is my guesstimate. Is that too much concrete and will it be very expensive?
Is there a better way to do it than using all that concrete? Some arrangement of iron beams on which I can lay the patio floor? I don't mind if there is space under the patio.
I would have tried a raised decking but (1) I understand decking cannot be so high and (2) we really wanted natural stone
