(no) POWER TO THE (Texan) PEOPLE!

Power cuts affect everyone.

Lol.
No sh*t sherlock...

The point was about individual disconnection or lowering of overall supply...

If you don't pay your bill or for some other reason your supply is limited does it automatically affect your neighbours?

Interestingly the practice of limiting supply has been in operation in parts of Spain for some time whereby you pay for the amount of KW's you can use at any one time in total, not on an unlimited usage basis based obviously on cabling capacity.

They have previously used capacity 'trip switches' (ICP's), but funnily enough their smart meters now have this limit programmed in (and can be remotely changed) as do most other smart meters!

There was me selfishly questioning the confusion that smart meter folks were somehow more vulnerable to power cuts than those with analogue jobbies.
How silly if me.

Incidentally, folk with smart meters are no more likely to get cut off by the power company than those with the old type.(y)

See my previous post...

Do you deny that smart meters have the ability to lower/cut off supply of electricity without forcing access to a home?

Yes or no?

So why is there a relay inside many ( if not all ) "smart" meters which if operated disconnects the supply to the consumer unit. The old meters did not have that capability. Off peak supply was controlled a separate time switch or wireless controlled switch ( control commands broadcast via sub carriers on the BBC Long Wave transmitters )

France too.

Makes sense.

Yes..probably. I don't actually know.

Did you know that should the electric company wish to shut down the supply of electric to a home, they don't need to do it via the meter?
Yes or no?

Did you know the protocols for shutting down the electric to a home via the meter are exactly the same for smart meters as they are for the old type?
Yes or no?

True. Gas and electricity can be cut off by digging up the road and cutting it off there, leaving the owner of the property with an even bigger bill (assuming it was cut off for non payment) to have it reconnected, although the gas can be cut off outside as well if the owner refuses to have an unsafe appliance disconnected. With a smart meter though, a flick of a switch, and it's all off. It would have made my life easier years ago.
