Mortgages refused for self-employed who took Covid grants

"Some of Britain's biggest high street banks are refusing to give mortgages to self-employed people who received government grants during the pandemic.

Mortgage brokers say those working in sectors like entertainment, hospitality and travel are the worst affected.

Many lenders spoken to by the BBC are not accepting mortgage applications from people on furlough.

Brokers said that banks often see people who have received Covid-related grants as high risk."

It was so bloody obvious, but those taking the money (and those 'swinging the lead') will end up paying far more in the long run!

Quelle surprise indeed. First time buyer at 49 years old? A poor example and not really typical. Before all of this furlough and SEISS, I doubt very much if a single, 49 year old hospitality worker with just a 10% deposit would have ever been offered a mortgage in the first place unless she was planning to carry on working until she was 80 years old!

Totally rubbish story too - it headlines about self employed and then goes on with a story about a worker who was furloughed. You can’t be furloughed if you're self employed but of course the OP has never been able to understand that distinction.

Is that the best example you could find? Got any more?

Aww bless...

The spiv doesn't understand the word 'grant'...

It should, since it's been claiming it for work it wasn't going to be doing anyway! (n)

Aww bless. The forum financial savant doesn’t understand the difference between self employed and employed, SEISS and furlough. Never mind, as long as that totally bullcrap story fits it’s narrative, it’ll do for lally.

Tell us all, mr financial loan expert, ignore the SEISS/furlough aspect of that 'story', if you were a mortgage provider, would you grant a mortgage to a 49 year old first time buyer who was employed in 'hospitality' (basically, pub work) with just a 10% deposit, would you grant a mortgage. Yes or no?

Strange, no answer and no surprise. I sometimes wonder why Lal starts threads and then 'does a Homer' when asked a perfectly reasonable question.

Totally off topic and diversionary. STILL no answer. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I’ll ask again in the style of Lally. Would you grant that person a mortgage. Yes or no?

Mottie is truly the saddest person on this website...

And Essex is not a safe place!

For asking you a question on a thread you started?

A bit of advice for you. Dont start threads or make posts if you don’t want to be questioned about them.
