MX5 Eunos rear shock absorber replace

Hi,
I have a MK1 MX5/Eunos Roadster 1993, and need to replace the rear shock absorbers for the MOT.

I tried yesterday and rounded the nuts on the Anti roll bar struts, so put it all back as it was, while I figured out what to do.

I can order 2x more bolts, then cut the old ones off, and I should be able to replace the shocks, or get a garage to do it.

How much would a garage charge for this, I have the shock absorbers.

You need special spring compressors for these as standard ones are too large to pass through the coils....budget for an hour each side and its worth asking the garage if they have done them before.

Hi J,
Yes, I used 1x none standard spring compressor, which looked quite wonky, but if I could have removed a strut bolt, I think I could have removed the spring assembly. Is this ok?

I'll ask the garage if they have done it before.

1x hour is perhaps £50 so if I give them the parts, then around £100 ish?

Sounds like a plan! I've done two MX5's (not Eunos but I guess they are the same) and both vehicles were H and J reg so we are going back a bit.
I remember having to drop the anti roll bar down to allow the struts out and then discovered that my standard spring compressors wouldn't fit but once I had the right compressor the job was easy enough.
Up here were are around £50 per hour labour, plus the dreaded VAT on top of course.

Hi J,
I hoped to do it myself, but 'at my age' it was a bit knackering, so I just asked my usual garage to change them, then MOT.

I had the same problem with the wrong clamps, so asked if they had done it before. The boss is away, but I mentioned the special clamps, and will leave it up to them. They charge £55 +, so not much different different.
