As per title, do solid brick wall houses have damp proof course, or is this something only found in properties with cavity walls. thanks

yes, usually, unless they are very old.

post some pics of your wall, near ground level, under and beside the doorstep, please.

you can "copy and paste" pics into your reply, or use "upload a file"

thanks any better

I can't see the doorstep or the DPC

But it looks like there is really bad long term efflorescence due to damp.

The white marks are typical of a leak of soapy water from a washing machine soaking into the brickwork. Usually seen near a waste pipe or gulley. Stand back and take some wider pictures so we can see what's happening nearby.

The cement plinth was probably added in a futile attempt to hide damp at the base of the wall.

The concrete paving may have raised ground level above the DPC.

How old is the house?

Is it in a major city?

Hi JohnD, thanks for input and concern but there's not efflorescence or any damp, that's just left over white paint i rubbed on the wall years back :D.

the cement plint has always been there as long as the property has been standing as far as im aware and runs right the way around the complete property.

the door way is essentially 10 inches or so above this external floor level (stairs leading to it). i also couldnt make out any DPC level anywhere around the property, i thought maybe the concrete plinth you referred to was a reference for the DPC level, but other forum members discounted that, one other person mentioned solid external walls dont have any DPC, i have no idea if that was correct.

if you have anymore advice would appreciate it, or need to see anymore pictures would happily post.

thanks

a dpc is sometimes visible by or under a door sill.

ok thanks. cant see under the sill as its blocked by concrete steps. and doesnt seem to be anything different around the door and i dont there would be anyway as the door has been raised about a foot as my internal floors were raised a number of years back...

Those blue bricks could be the DPC

Blue bricks?? are you referring to the first line of bricks counting from the floor level up. i dont beleive they are blue, just discoloured from weathering and i dont beleive they are all that colour, although will have to check once i get home. thanks

The bricks are clear of any of the salts indicating that they are different and potentially acting as a DPC
