Hello all

Just wondered if I can get some advice - I am having new patio doors and laying a new patio to the garden and looking to get a flush finish into the patio from the doors. However there is airbrick in the wall directly under the doors which is connected to ducting into the old part of the house which is suspended timber flooring.

How could I achieve this finish with the airbrick and still provide enough ventilation into the house. Any genius ideas that could help me out here?

you're going to have to duct it to somewhere, or give up on your flush finish. Flush finishes can be tricky to detail regarding DPCs and window thresholds, in case that side of the house gets the rain splashing up.

Fit an Acco channel between the paving and the house, and cut the side out where the air brick is.

No he means the solid side of the drainage channel will block the air brick if it's hard up, so cut out the part that would Cover the air brick.

I might be being a numpty here but do you mean something like this pic?

Won't the water just flow out of the drainage channel, through the airbrick and under the house?

It might, and it's not something i would recommend! You'll have to consult with woody about where he left his horse.

That’s just an example pic mate
An example of what?

Anyway, if you are sloping the patio away from the house you can fit either one or a series of channels and cut out an air brick sized rectangle in the side where the air brick is. The channel won't fill with water as the patio is sloping away from it, but to deal with any slight water ingress you either leave the joints slightly open or cut a few drain holes in the bottom.

If the patio is sloping towards the house, then you'll need the deep flow version.

I would say the best thing is to put in new telescopic vents elsewhere -to maintain airflow when you lose the ones below the door

No disrespect to Woody, but aco drains fill up with shoite -Id be nervous about creating a direct path to the floor void

You shouldn't randomly move vents without considering the impact on proper cross ventilation.

The acco drain will not fill up with water, crap or be a direct path for water to the floor void for the reasons stated above.

TBH, there is no better, easier or more elegant solution to this situation.
