They do believe the lies and they will keep believing the lies as to them it's too shameful to admit they were conned and on top - the lies give them comfort of wistful second hand nostalgia of empire. Our role in the world has changed as our empire has receeded. We see it mainly in countries who still think they can re-create their past empires - France is another example but even they are not that stupid to think they can go it alone on the world stage anymore.
Boris boosterism is a hollow because it's not backed by anything other than a mindset and worldview but its pitched perfectly for the Spoony's Sovereignty Squad. Boris knows his mark perfectly.

This worldwide pandemic has been a bloody Godsend for all those that continually blame Brexit/Tories/'Borisconi' for all decisions made and things promised before it came along. I wonder if the same thing happened when WW2 broke out - were the general U.K. haters blaming the politicians in the same way for promises they made before a major world-wide unpredicted catastrophe occurred? Obviously there were no Internet trolls around at that time but I bet the well-informed/well connected/top virologists/international statesmen/financial experts/social care leaders/healthcare specialists/too-busy-spouting-off-to-save-the-country types were all up there at speakers corner shouting their 'expert' complaints in hindsight to anyone that would give them the time. Like many on here, I’ll bet they also never proffered a solution either, just moaned about the problem.

Will you please identify which breakings of promises made during the referendum campaign, and which failures to appear of promised benefits, can be explained by the pandemic.
Ive noticed that a significant number of people who bang on about "U.K. haters" are often actually "truth haters" and dont so much want to rewrite history as erase it.
Will you please explain how criticising politicians and other influential people who told lies to bring about an outcome which they believe damages the UK makes someone a hater of the UK?

Yes it’s been a godsend for this govt to enact emergency legislation and do loads of bogus deals without scrutiny.
it’s also been awfully handy to hide Brexit damage.
