How should I prepare this surface for a new tile?

Hello,

There was a cracked tile in the shower cubicle of our new house, otherwise, the shower was in good condition.

I carefully removed the cracked tile, and discovered that the plaster, and plaster, and plasterboard behind it was damaged (perhaps it damaged it while removing the tile)

On removing the damaged plasterboard, I discovered there is a solid wooden support behind it (see photos)

Ho should I proceed? what product should I use to fill the void left be the plasterboard?

the plasterboard had been plastered over, and then the tiles laid, does this make a difference?

Screw a piece of tile backer board to the wood to fill the gap and then replace the tile.

By modern standards, that should have been at least tanked before it was tiled. But thousands of bathrooms weren’t and survive perfectly well.

thanks for the reply! The other tiles have a layer of plaster between the plaster board and the tiles, should I try and replicate the plaster layer for this tile?

Not for one tile that’s going to be fixed partially to plasterboard and partly to tile backer board.

Use a cement based powdered adhesive so you can have a thicker bed.
