kitchen mixer tap won't stand straight

I just spent the whole day replacing my kitchen sink and taps. I have a new mixer that I cannot get to stand straight. It's leaning slightly to the right, and wobbles a lot even though the sink is 0.9 gauge steel. There is a C-shaped plate under the sink holding the tap in place with rubber between it and the sink. There is an O ring on the top of the sink under the tap. I've tried removing the O ring, and I tried removing the rubber seal under the sink, but the tap still leans to the right. I'm not sure what is causing this...any idea what is causing it and how I can get my tap to stand vertically?

Edit: this is the tap https://www.diy.com/departments/goo...t-kitchen-side-lever-tap/3663602481881_BQ.prd

did you fix the tap to the sink before you fitted the sink to the worktop?

some photos of the fixing may help.

fitted tap several times after fitting sink. Tried turning c plate upside down as it seemed not quite flat , but it didn't make much difference

I had in mind that it is much easier to see what you're doing, before fitting the sink into the worktop.

your tap is different to ones I've used, where narrow rigid pipes screw into the tap body and come down from the base of the tap into the under-the-worktop space, where you have more room. As these copper tails are much thinner, they pass through the opening more easily.

You didn't get any tails with your tap, then?

A common problem. What I have done to the SS sink in our utility, is cut from a piece of 6mm plastic (gutter fascia) a large oblong section, with a suitable cut out for the tap, which I then glued in place, underneath.

Almost looks as if it isn't sitting on the seal properly. That being said, can you move the tap and does it then sit flat on the sink and does the sink deflect with it? Is it a large heavy tap?

If so then you may need a tap support.

If you have access to the wall under the sink, have a look at Sauber Tap Anchor. There are others, such as Franke.

Thats what I thought initially, so I removed the o ring and the same thing happened. Then i removed the rubber bit between sink and c plate and it still tilted! It is fairly heavy i guess. Does that go on top of the sink?

Did that stop the wobble? I still need to figure out why its tilted though

I don’t unfortunately the back of the cupboard supports the back of the worktop so there is just a vertical surface and nothing to fix to. I had to cut grooves in it to attach the sink clips

I think you've assembled it wrong.

I'd remove it and start again, making sure that the sealing o-ring which fits between tap and sink (top side) is fitted correctly and securely. They are designed to sit down inside the tap recess, leaving the tap to contact firmly with the sink.
Make sure the threaded spigot is well screwed into the tap and is tight.
Place c clamp and gasket correctly as per the instructions.

Once the stack up is correct, is will all tighten down firmly and you shouldn't have the loos fitting in the OP.

My 2c anyway and i've fitted these a handful of times myself.

The nut is an utter **** to tighten up though!

We did it about 5 times and it leaned to the right every time . I don’t know what we might have done wrong. I even trued sticking the o ring in place with a bit of silicon, but it made no difference. Removed O ring completely, still tilts.

What is the make and model of the tap?
