Firms still trading in Russia

Good to hear Coca Cola is pulling out. The Coca Cola company have long been immoral, or amoral as they would have it. They boasted about not taking sides in the World Wars and supplying the enemies as well as the Americans. They ended up as one of the world's largest companies, and as one of the reasons for people saying "there is no God".

McDonald's is also one of the great evils of modern life, but good on them for boycotting Russia.

I'm still boycotting halal-marked products. One mustn't take ones eye off that ball during these distracting times.

What has the poor, ordinary Russian done to you other than suffer at the hands of an inbred nasty leader?????
Stop spouting bile at the ordinary people of Russia as many live in England that are not Putin's cronies.
I think you're being a bit unfair, TH, I don't think people are spouting bile at the ordinary people of Russia. I think the average person in the west is fully aware of the trials and tribulations of the ordinary people of Russia.
The point of the sanctions are to bring home to the ordinary people the inhumane and aggressive actions of their leader. It isn't to punish them per se, but to open their eyes to what is really happening.
It is to send a signal to Putin, etc, that his aggressive interventions abroad will have consequences for his popularity at home.
So the sanctions are an attempt to alienate the Russian people against their despotic leader.

I agree the motivation for such organisations to impose sanctions may be public pressure, and concern for falling revenue at home. But their compliance with that public pressure, and concern for their own revenue does have the desired effect.

The consequences of closing these stores means job losses for ordinary people and you see it as a joke, incredible!!
Give the ordinary Ukrainians the choice of losing their job or losing everything including their home and loved ones and I know what they would choose. Yes, ordinary Russians will be hurting but it's Putins fault, nobody else's.

We visited Russia in 2018 for a river cruise, all the attractions we visited, Hermitage, Red Square, various churches, "The Kremlin" and other Kremlins were full to bursting with tourists, mainly western Europe, USA, Australia. The cruise ships were docked five abreast mostly, about now the ships will be coming out of storage as the rivers thaw out ready for the season, they may see a handful of tourists from their allies, but I fear that industry is dead for many years.

Hopefully more and more ordinary Russian start pointing the finger at Putin and his cronies.
As stated before, Putin must be having nightmares about how Colonel Gadaffi met his end.

Exactly, and these sanctions are not going to have much affect on anyone other than the Proles,

When a million proles gather in Red Square having finally realised Vlad the Insaner brought this on them, there won't be enough coppers to drag them off to jail. If they start shooting, the mob will murder them.

I might add the guides, cruise staff etc were well educated multi lingual and well travelled, so I hope they can see whats happening

you mean like the million who protested in london against the war in iraq that made no difference whatsoever

I've been there as well. Baltic cruise. Russian ship. A number of Russian tourists on it as well. Ordinary people. At least we have some idea what at least some of the country is like.

Thread is out of date anyway. More have pulled out. One reason will be restocking anything that has to be imported due to the Ruble. However as a SWIFT person pointed out if the businesses can be run they will just be taken over at the Russian end. Truss is hoping that other countries will join the sanctions. Perhaps we may tend to think that the ones we know of that have joined in are the entire world - far from it.

Im surprised a Russian bot like you hasn’t heard of Shchi

Thanks for the link. Something to try. While there I was given a sandwich. Rather nice with what could have been pale cabbage on it. I wished I had asked what it was etc.

The war in Iraq didn't affect that million in the slightest ( other than emotionally perhaps). It didn't impoverish them; nor did it have them and their children go hungry.

In UK, don't think, 'Stop the War!'; think, 'No to the Poll Tax!'.

Lets hope so but we must be aware that once this person is ousted and he will be if his cronies start seeing a squeeze or their royla life styles we may end up with something similar.

The people of with military/police support need to kick out the cronies and have a strong leader that takes no **** from the west etc. By this I mean a good honest, strong leader works to benefit his country but is only too aware that his nation is not an island so has to work with other countries rather than **** stir like our gov.
Stalin was worse than Putin and he died in his own bed, although, it has to be said, under suspicious circumstances.
All this anti Russia hysteria is going achieve is drive Russia into the arms of China.

Putin said Russia tried to build bridges with west and at onetime toyed with idea of joining NATO but Russophobia is so ingrained in the Western psyche that he concluded it was a waste of time.
