Will Smith. Right or wrong?

The last time a man took offence at somebody criticising his wife.

Furious over an article Levin had written about his then wife, the actress Agnes Bernelle, Desmond Leslie punches theatre critic Bernard Levin in front of eleven million viewers during an edition the satirical TV show That Was The Week That Was in 1962.

As stated by me another example of a cowardly attack but a bigger bloke on a small guy.

The Smith attack on the Rock caught everyone out, especially the comedian.

There are no other words for it, attacking someone like this because of what was said was a cowardly attack.

Some are stating every a bigger attack was required and then trying to start another thread about the viliocence in the Ukraine. How on earth can anyonne compare the two!!

Smith was wrong and anyone with any sense would have had a quiet word with the Rock after the even or during time out and I'm sure the Rock would have said it was a joke, they were friends but as Smith and wife took offence he would have apologised. No need for others to say they would have carried out more than a slap.

Violence is never the answer and Smith is wrong and owns the little guy an apology.
The clip quoted above is another case of a much bigger guy attacking a smaller guy. I'm sure most people that attack others would not if their intended victim was bigger/stronger.

See link below, Susan Ried has got it right IMJ
(Smith was lol then he saw his wifes face from what I can tell I'm with Sue Ried)

Strange how we're getting pontifications from the ugly little forum troll who only recently was crowing about "slapping people down".
6 posts so far in this one little thread to tell us what was "As stated by him." Risible, self-important .....

Smith's blubbing shouldn't get him out of the standard sanction for the offences which in pretty much any organisation, would see him barred. Recall his Oscar, if that's possible. Will Smith may have a reputation for that sort of language but it doesn't make it OK. Violence makes it absolute.

According to this, https://www.thirstyfornews.com/2022...ke-was-not-approved-during-oscars-rehearsals/
- which may be junk, I have no idea, - the joke was not rehearsed, and Smith & his partner weren't there anyway.

The joker was pretty low, it's a medical condition which made her lose her hair.

And the state of their relationship is irrelevant.

Who's Will Smith. What he done?

Well...

In West Philadelphia he was born and raised
On the playground was where he spent most of his days
Chillin' out, maxin', relaxin', all cool
And all shootin' some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys who were up to no good
Started making trouble in his neighborhood
He got in one little fight and his mom got scared
She said, "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air"

He whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said, "Fresh" and it had dice in the mirror
If anything he could say that this cab was rare
But he thought "Nah, forget it, yo, holmes to Bel Air"
He pulled up to the house about seven or eight
And he yelled to the cabbie, "Yo holmes, smell ya later"
He looked at his kingdom
He was was finally there
To sit on his throne as the prince of Bel-Air

They aslo said that this Smith guy walking on to the stage and slapping the little guy was not in the rehearsals. Intillay I tought, set up!!

But seeing the Smith face when he sat down and what he spouted, IMJ its for real.

As I said, only cowards resort to hitting people and I'm sure Smith would not have hit the little guy if he was bigger.

They were friends and like you said this was said in rehersals. The unexpected slap is a cowardly move and those that spout this kind of stuff
are internet warriors as I seen people spout that they'd do this and the other in similar circumstances, but it all depends on the size of the guy you are going to hit and often if the are stronger than you, or bigger, most will say "oh leave it he/she is mad"

Violence is never the answer and definitely not in this case.
I suppose the coming weeks and months will tell us if this was all staged, if nothing else based on how successful (or not) Will's career is after this. Wtf do I know about Hollywood, however I've seen enough stuff about it to know if this was staged, the Hollywood machine will know (whether now or in the coming days) and he might remain just as marketable, if not more. Obviously the reverse will likely be true if not staged.

I don't agree that violence is never justified. I agree that in the high majority of cases it isn't. Let's say you have a young child and you walk in on someone sexually abusing them. Are you seriously saying a degree of violence might not be called on in that scenario to a) get the abuser off your child and b) ensure they don't bolt?

I don't think you can apply a (very) broad brush and say violence isn't, on occasion, justified.

Imo smith was wrong to hit that bloke

On a different note

violence or the threat of violence has been used to solve many issues since humans walked the earth

in many cases if violence did not solve the problem it was because not enough was used ????

the little guy
smaller guy

Why do you think their difference in height is such an issue? If Rock was taller or broader than Smith, would that make it OK?
This is not a random bully picking on a smaller guy.

In this case, Rock was the bully, and he got a slap. That's all. A sting on the cheeky for being disrespectful.

Worst things happen over smaller insults in pubs all over the country every night. Are you out there defending the "smaller guys" out winding people up for kicks?
Bullies love to wind people up, upset them, and pass it off as banter. It's about time one was put in their place.

Will could have knocked him out, but just gave him a friendly slap.

Stupid forum, doesn't let the videos start at a certain point.

Ali G, as 1:45 in this video gives the best justification for when the use of violence is acceptable :)
To this day his 'is it cause I is black?' question cracks me up.

YOU CAN TAKE OUR TREES ... BUT YOU CAN'T TAKE OUR FREEDOM!! literally lol.

Chris Rock is 5'10.
Will Smith is 6'01
that's equal enough.

In my local, I would have expected more than that if I chose to point out some medical issue that was obviously sensitive.
I have a female friend who lost her hair at 21 - she's over 60 now and is still traumatised by the whole thing.
I may be a short arse, but if someone behaved like Rock did, I'd stand up for her. We're in no way involved, but I understand how devastating it can be for anyone, especially a female
