Thanks for the help earlier in the week on fixing my fence.

Its 90% back together now I've got every thing ready to go but I haven't filled the holes back in yet ontop of the post crete.

I'd really like to paint the fence a nice green or grey colour as it's a 10 year old wooden panel fence.

Should I stain the base of the posts first with a wood preserver, can I then paint ontop of them or will fence paint also act like a natural preservative? Then soil backfilled to the bases.

A neighbour suggested using old motor oil.

Thanks alot!

I wouldn't use motor oil, it will contaminate the ground and is probably illegal. I used those PostSaver things on my gazebo posts but can't really comment on durability as it was only 2 years ago

Will a regular fence paint do the job? Didn't think it would be grest yeah but didn't realise it was illegal as well.

Rather not do that to the environment either

Do you live near a fencing or agricultural supply shop? They'll probably have the PostSaver wraps (bitumen) which is my recommendation.
I imagine almost any paint you buy will say "unsuitable for use in direct contact with the ground".
