Not childhood, but going to the pub and not knowing for sure who would be there.
And arranging something a few months in advance, then doing it without checking 20 times on the day.
 
There was ceefax for bbc and oracle for itv.
If you had both, you could refer to them as

ceef'cle.

My secondary school had two non-white kids in my year of 130, and "they both stank", so everyone stayed away from them.
Any bloke who wasn't 100% testosterone-powered was viewed as someone who would do unspoken unspeakable things to you. Same with any woman who was "too old to be single". That's changed, thank dog.
